Proposal: Mason Mctavish to Chicago

idk that there is enough evidence of negotiating grinding… PV has said he prefers bridge deals coming off ELC.

As for mctavish, the org has always been very high on him, so ya I’d imagine it would require some type of overpay…. We have a ton of cap space at our disposal, not sure trying to sign mctavish to offer sheet is the wisest move, as you are more likely to be near the cap soon…. And might be a prime candidate for counter offer sheets
Ana under Burke and Murray, unless that player performed well, would grind their RFAs. Even the good ones like Rackell and Lindholm. But, more on guys who had some question marks still.

PV, no surprise he did bridge with Drysdale and Zegras. MacTavish, it's going to be a leap of faith to go term and buy up UFA years. Someone has to give, either MacTavish wants the security and takes a bit less or the Ducks are rolling the dice a bit that he becomes what they hope. Bridge most likely. His agent could seek an OS but the Ducks are not hampered by the cap. Just a matter of the OS being outrageous for them to not match.

Oh no i was just stating that he said at the event... he prefers to do bridge deals off ELC.

A package with Mctavish as one of the pieces in a deal for matthews from the leafs may work if Toronto blows it up and Matthews is willing to waive for the ducks.

Maybe a 9.5 million offer sheet?

If CHI started with Rinzel, then added, ANA might listen. Think that they would listen more to offers for Zegras, though. From afar, it seems that Zegras just isn't a fit there. I can see the argument for keeping him around till next fall, and hope that he has a transformative summer, but they'd have to be far more open to moving him than McTavish.

Ducks need is to add offense, but not necessarily a C. If McTavish is moved, it's either a 1 for 1 or (more likely) as part of a package for an upgrade at forward. The Ducks have one of the worst offenses in hockey (large part due to coaching), so downgrading there isn't going to make the Ducks think about moving him. Ideally, Ducks can add a forward this summer to replace Killorn on the Carlsson line, though they're finally having a little chemistry.

Anaheim needs capable forwards. I don't think they're in a position to trade McTavish (or Zegras).

Gauthier – Carlsson – Sennecke
Zegras – McTavish – Colangelo
x – x – Terry
x – x – x

Meanwhile, their future on defense looks solid:

LHD: LaCombe, Mintyukov, Zellweger, Solberg
RHD: Luneau, Helleson, Moore

Ducks match. Even if it's overpayment not sure why the team with the most cap space in the league would let that go.

Do you really want to start an offer sheet battle with the Ducks though? They have a lot of cap space.

I don't mean this to be disrespectful of Rinzel. Solid prospect that I would love to have on the Ducks. But, there is no chance in reality where he would be the best piece going back for McTavish. Even if the Ducks were trying to trade McTavish for futures Rinzel is not even close to appealing enough to make the Ducks think about it.
Rinzel is a defensemen, the Ducks have at least 4 defensemen 20-24 that would be ahead of Rinzel.
The Ducks need a star forward, even more so if they are trading a 22 year old potential star forward.

I agree with your overall sentiment but penciling a guy with 8 points in the top 6 over our top scorer is wild

When I think of a deal that might make sense maybe Owen Power for McTavish+ I see nothing outside of Lardis and Lev that would make sense for Anaheim (Bedsy going nowhere)

Yet we still come back to the fact that the Ducks are overloaded with young talent on D, but not enough up front.

In all likelihood they'll be trading at least one very talented young blueliner within the next couple years. And likely for a forward.

As it stands Luneau is scoring around a point per game in the AHL yet had no way to move up. Solberg and Moore are now in the AHL too. They have 4 young guys playing every night in the NHL already. Something has to give, they have to make a move, but it won't be the acquisition of yet another dman.

Ehh if they could swing a deal around one of those Dman for a guy like Schnider I think that’d make sense

I know everybody would likely disagree with me, but I believe he might be the forward Bedard needs given their chemistry.

Chicago doesn't have anything to offer that Anaheim wants, but the bigger comment I have is that both are slow centers. McTavish with a lot more jam, but he doesn't have the skating to add what Bedard is missing, which is someone who can carry the puck into the offensive zone and let Bedard play a sneakier F3 game.

Someone like Ehlers or Marner would be ideal for Bedard. Or a puck dominant center that would have Bedard on their wing.

no they wouldn't, you would need to start with a better player. ducks are not going to move mctavish for a prospect, they would only move him for a similar aged nhl caliber forward.
