Mason McTavish Playing GREAT

He had some glorious point blank chances. Was one of the better players offensively, but overall Anaheim was not very good tonight.

3 points tonight! (2 G, 1 A)

Is he not the Ducks Captain yet?
Don't do that to a young player. Not until the Ducks are for sure competitive. Let them put in a full season to show that they can do it over 82 games. No need to burden a young player with it. Does more harm than good. Put it on a vet like Fowler, Killorn, or someone else for the time being.

Its crazy because Mctavish plays the game like hes been in the NHL for 15 years. Hes just a step ahead and knows where to go.
The thing that stands out to me as a goalie is how incredibly well he has figured out when goalies are vulnerable for five hole shots. He just gets it in a way few players do, even among the elite. At his age, this is pretty unreal to me.

Kids a gamer. He'll probably be a great playoff performer too. Anaheim is gunna be scary with a Carlsson - McTavish 1-2 punch. I was a big fan of him his draft year but I never expected him to be this good so quick.

Future long-term captain for Anaheim. Kind of perfect how he emerged right after Getzlaf retired. Not saying he's Getz (yet), but he plays with the same kind of run-through-a-brick-wall mentality. So much fun to watch.

Really impressive season so far. Quicker in the NZ than last year and so smart down low. I do see a bit of the Perry parallels that others have mentioned. His instincts and heavy game should eventually translate well to the playoffs.

Here's some of his close-range offense (high-danger shots, playmaking, screens):

His in game analysis of every player on the ice is amazing. That he can analyze them execute what he wants to (like the OT goal) plus his strength and skills are going to make him a monster for a long time to come. Glad he's in Anaheim... it's crazy to think he may end up as the 2C on the team. He is easily Anaheim's best player so far.

On a side note, if Anaheim was only focused on getting Carlsson rookie of the year, could you imagine a line of Carlsson-McTavish-Vatrano with the way Frank has been shooting this year?
