I approve.

I am happy to eat crow on the trade. So happy its developing like this. I have no problem admitting it. If we can reach the SCF the trade was worth it. I am sure Tampa is happy as well getting two first round picks. Dare I say a win win at this point? Its awesome to have a guy like MSL on the team not just cause of his offensive skill but also because of his character and desire to win.

I felt like a dick after I was pumping MSL's tires the entire regular season he was here and he put up less than .5 PPG. I still think he was playing a lot better than that, but it is what it is and his points were way down.

It's great to see him play such a huge role in the POs, especially in the later rounds. 4 game point streak in the ECF- crazy.

People starting to turn around? Good. I fought for this trade in the Fire Sather-thread, and I still stand by it. I make that trade yesterday, today and tomorrow.

As I've said before, ultimately, everything is judged on the results. I hated the trade when we made it, but I can't argue with the results. I still think not having those picks will hurt us down the road, but right now I don't care because the results are worth it.

That being said, let's not pretend that had we lost to pittsburgh, the narrative wouldn't be very different right now.

To the detriment of the narrative.

Yeah rather than just admit all the unnecessary whining and lamenting lottery tickets was incredibly premature, we'll just spin it and start talking about stuff that didn't happen to try and justify being reactionary and impatient.

I was big time for the trade when it was made. Had we lost to the Pens, I would still be for it. I really couldn't understand the majority that were so against this. MSL was scoring at a PPG clip this season, mostly without Stamkos. He takes immaculate care of himself and I think he has 3-5 seasons in the tank. Hank's 32, I believe. With Hank having limited prime years left, I bring in the elite player over picks that statistically have little chance of amounting to much. To me, these latter years of MSL's career likely coincide with the last best prime we see from Henrik Lunqvist. I absolutely bring in St Louis and go for it with those two guys. I'd rather take a chance to win big the next 3 or 4 years, during the few precious remaining prime years of the best goalie this team has ever had.

Well, Gordie Howe played til he was 46 right? Jagr just retired at 42

If MSL wants to stick around I'm all for re-signing him for 2015-16

Fairly certain Howe was 52 in his last season. Hartford. Scored either 42 or 52 points, I believe, not dead certain and too lazy to look it up. I'm almost positive on him retiring at 52 though

Would not be surprised if he he were still here - putting up 1st line numbers - in 3-4 years.

I feel the same way and almost expect it. His combination of fitness and smarts is a lot on its own. But for us NYR fans, I think it's also awesome to see one of the team's best offensive players have so much dedication and expectation of himself that he continually stays after practice.
