Boyle...

has Cally's production really been dropping? Last season wasn't great, although 17 goals in 65 games for him isn't too far off. In the prior year he tallied 16 goals in 45 games. Not a bad clip. The year before he had his best season, 29 goals in 76 games (on a pro-rated bases, last season was near par with his best season). So is the one "down" season really the beginning of the trend? Has he been in similar situations in those seasons? Was his ice time similar last season compared to prior seasons? And his role? But make no mistake, Cally should not be judged on goals alone. He's never been a 30 goal scorer. He's a 20 goal scorer. St. Louis is a goal scorer. If one wants to compare the two, you can't compare based on production alone. How was Cally's PK abilities this season? Did he slow down there? Was he no longer blocking shots, getting crucial takeaways? Did he stop using his body and did he seem to lose a step?

And if the trend for Cally is a decline based on this season, can one then deduce that St. Louis is showing that perhaps he can't handle the grind of an 82 game season + playoffs? His numbers since joining the Rangers would suggest that, especially if one uses production alone as the measure and you extrapolate an opinion on Cally to the opinion on St. Louis.

Singn's (is that proper?) point is we have seen this before. The Rangers getting rid of the guy who's been in the system for 6-8 seasons and exchanging him for a guy 10 years older. It has worked in the NHL before, but we haven't seen much success with that since 1993/1994 and it's gotten a bit tired to some. I'm guessing.

I have some interesting numbers too:

Player A:

March 21, 1985

Player B:

June 18, 1975

Not interesting and on this board, neither of those are acceptable birth dates.

How about these:

Player A:

Missed 48 games the last 4 years due to injuries

Player B:

Missed 4 games in the last 8 years.

Who is 29 and who is 39? Again, two guesses.

Callahan's numbers are dropping. And so is his overall effectiveness on the ice.

You can argue the second point. And the delusional might. For me it seemed like he has made more mental errors the last two season then he has the previous five. But you can't argue the first point.

Sorry Fletch, but when was the last time before MSL the Rangers made a youth for old age trade? The Jagr deal?

There are as many people stuck in 2004 as there are in 1994.

Continues to impress. Beginning to rival Nash for who has played worse.

Shift at the end of the 1st on the PP was one for the record books.

The MSL - Cally trade has proven out to be one of the worst in history of this franchise.

It, alone, should be cause for firing Sather.

I have to wonder what effect Callahan would have on the PP at this point. He went to the areas and scored the kind of goals that nobody on this team will go to or scores.

This

Callahan led this team in PP goals for several seasons even this one, he goes to Tampa who had a struggling PP, and they turned it around since the trade. Players and coaches giving a lot of credit to Callahan......not just Stamkos.

He not only crashes the net, he also makes the fore-checks that keep the play in the zone and continue pressure.

MSL has been a net negative this series. His turnovers and lackadaisical play in the defensive zone are disgusting. I honestly hope he and Nash get scratched, they are hurting the team.

It's amazing people are still defending him.

When is he going to turn his game around? When he turns 43?

He's done. He has at best one year left of average play

The best thing St. Louis can do in the offseason is retire and relieve the Rangers of his cap hit.

No, Callahan at 6 million would be almost as ****** as MSL imo
Its that 1st round pick this team lost that we should care about...

Or the potential return of a young prospect or draft picks cally could have returned.

They moved him for absolutely no return. And gave up picks in the process

Forget signing Cally to an extension. We would have been better this season holding on to him...even if it meant letting him walk in the offseason, at least we'd keep our picks too like you mentioned.

Callahan is due his money, he did not make a lot in the first few seasons playing here. A guy who scores around 50 points, is a two way shut down forward, special teams specialist, is certainly worth around 5.5 to 6 Million, imo. This guy bled for this team, became the captain, worked hard every night even with injuries, and he gets thrown out for an aging elite forward who did not want to play for his GM anymore, come on now.
