The reason they don't agree could be that they're scared.

Here is something they don't understand. Acccctuary. They may feel we paythis guy 10.9m but he brings in 17.7m and the presumed replacement will bring in 35% of that number and cost 70% of his cap.

Better off sticking with MM money wise. Winning does not matter.

Found his goalsong video, it was made last time he scored. I dig it!

Just joking , if he find more of a scoring touch we could go far. Matthews aint helping right now.

Could be.

They quite also could be scared. I don't even think scared is the right word. But you do need to be bold to make a change. Especially with a fan favourite, or cornerstone of the franchise.

The only 3 options would really be Matthews, Nylander or Marner. Not sure JT or Rielly would make all that much of a difference.
I agree it would be bold although with so many asking for a change the bold move may be to not make any move.

Obviously a trade isn't happening and walking from Nylander would have been the first change if that was in the plans.
Who was the last high end player in their prime that a Team let walk away? I'm sure it's happened but I can't think of one.

It's difficult to seperate fact from fiction when it comes to the Leafs. Apparantly the Leafs did ask around about Nylander and the return wasn't where they wanted it to be.

Who knows if they asked about Marner?

I can think of examplea in other sports of stars walking away and maybe JT or Petro would be the 2 biggest names I can think of but it doean't happen all that often.

I think with your examples the teams made offers and the player chose to walk.

It was interesting watching the new Red Sox doc.

The Sox and Leafs have a simular problem.

The Sox were full of stars, were always right there and were accused of not having the toughness or the hatred of losing enough.

They brought in Theo Epstein who tried to change the core but it fell through in the winter.

Sox got off to a poor start in 2004 before Eipstein made the bold move to trade their hometown hero Nomar. On paper the lost the trade by a wide margin. But he acquired 2 players he thought would make the difference come postseason. The rest is history.

Raptors made the same type of trade moving on from Derozen and bringing in Khawai.

I wonder if the Leafs brass has the courage to make the same type of move?
I haven’t watch the documentary. Were the Sox serious contenders prior to finally winning? So far the Leafs haven’t been. They have won like one game past the first series. The Leafs are the opposite of being right there. They haven’t even been close to a contender. Yet. It’s likely this will go down as one of the worst cores to compete in the playoffs. It’s pathetic.

Robertson - ? - Little m

Put a decent center between Robertson and the Little m, and see if the shooter can score.

When Matthews is healthy of course.

Knies - Matthews - McMann
Paccioretty - Tavares - Nylander
Robertson - Holmberg/Kampf/Domi - Little m

Give the shooter a set-up man.

Of course Matthews has to stay healthy.

Much like the Sox. Make the playoffs. Lose to the Yankees in horrible fashion in game 7. Successful in the regular season. Stars underperform when it mattered.

The narrative in Bos was they just were not all that serious about winning.

The Leafs who I would argue were closer than you would give them credit for have had the same issues.
