As far as shots close to the net you would have to watch the games and see if he is not being passed the puck or if there are other reasons
When you have no way to argue the key points and facts Marners detractors bring to the table.
Oh, he's already had the average shot distance stuff explained to him. Multiple times. He just ignores it and continues reposting it with statements he knows are wrong.
Because it's not about being correct. It's about finding anything to blast Marner.
There are a couple causes. For one, over the past two years in the regular season, 0.28% of Marner's shots have been a result of dump-ins from center ice. Over the past two years in the playoffs, dump-ins hitting the net represent 4.44% of Marner's shots. This skews the average, but really has nothing to do with his in-zone play.
Beyond that, blueline shots represent 20% of Marner's shots in the playoffs, and 16.4% of his shots in the regular season. This represents a difference of Marner taking an extra 1.6 point shots in the playoffs over the past 2 years, which is not only insignificant, but easily explainable. Why would Marner take
slightly more blueline shots in the playoffs over the past 2 years?
1. The team averages 61% more time with the goalie pulled in the playoffs, where Marner generally replaces the defender.
2. We purposefully shot more from the point as a strategy to exploit Vasilevsky's weakness:
"Rob Gherson posted a fantastic thread on Twitter Tuesday evening breaking down some fundamentals as to why Vasilevskiy has struggled on these point shots."
"the main point he makes is how upright Vasilevskiy is in his stance when pucks are being shot from a distance. Essentially, this means that he isn’t set at the time the shot is taken, and takes a split second longer to get his body into position."
"Gherson coined the term ‘panic flopping’, suggesting it also affects Vasilevskiy’s ability to track the puck with his arms due to how quickly he has to react. That also makes it tougher to react to deflections, an area he has again been beaten on plenty in this series."
""We did a study back in the day, he was one of the lower percentage goalies in finding pucks from the point,” Lalonde explained."
3. The pucks were going in. His shooting percentage from the blueline in the playoffs over the past 2 years is 33.3%.
Which means people are literally here complaining about Marner scoring goals in the playoffs. Really shows how silly the whole thing is.
