Has to be the most hilarious victim complex I've ever seen.

Yet this doesn't seem to be a thing with Matthews or Nylander, not even a little bit. Why is that?
Fans, former players, and the media are seizing the opportunity to cash in on poor Marner. They couldn’t generate clicks from breakdowns using advanced stats on Matthews or Nylander, so they’ve zeroed in on Marner instead. It seems the media has noticed that fans prefer to unfairly target him.

We’re all just mindlessanimals driven by clicks, picking an unsuspecting victim at random and pretending it’s justified.

No idea.

We do know all of them can be better.
We do know all of them should be better.

None of them are perfect.

If one were to speculate, it is because one of the three has the thinnest skin. You know that party will take the hook.
It's just pandering to a specific group who lap it up.

It's very true. We have seen it with all three.
Nylander has been called out by multiple coaches. He doesn't sulk. He tries to up his game, and even admits he needs a wakeup call sometimes. He even told Keefe he's okay with it.

Matthews has brushed it off.

Marner has asked for a trade when demoted to the 4th line. He broke his stick in anger when skipped a shift by Keefe. He has went after the media too. "Shambles in our brain" comment is a classic.

The Matrix
This Mitchell Marner stuff is really a strange phenomenon.

You have those that bash him for absolutely everything, unfairly I may add.

You have those that praise him for absolutely everything , even pointing out simple things like playing on the boards, and tend to exaggerate every single play he makes.

Than you have those that are critical of him, but do actually realize he is a good player, just perhaps not worth the money.

2 out of 3 groups are labelled as haters.

Hopefully 1 day we will all live as one.

Perhaps, although we'll miss all the stuff that's made up about him.
Some good laughs.

No doubt.
If there was no reaction there'd be no group.
Yup... its the reaction. If not for the reaction, people would just ignore his stats. Note this was posted before the Bruins 2024 series. So it only got worse:

Interesting that so many call out Tavares because of his speed, many calling him washed up, however, Marner is moving slower on average than Tavares...how well is Marners speed gonna age on a new contract?:

I don't know where people have been if they don't think all of the core 4 have had stupid articles/videos made about them. The other 3 just don't have people constantly reposting every bad article/video from the past 8 years. It's also pretty easy to see why Marner became a media focus. A lot of people have pre-existing biases against smaller players, wingers, playmakers, etc., so there was already a wider potential audience to capture, and then there was a lot of misguided anger generated during the contract saga. Media rode that wave.

Marner already answered the skating questions like 8 years ago. He turned his skating into a strength not a weakness.

marner "hate" is justifiable. he's not just bad in the playoffs, he's a game wrecker. i really think his style makes toronto an easier team to play in april. he really hasn't changed much and will get another massive contract, which will handicap the team. he is dak prescott status to me. idc how many reg season assists he gets. he's a game wrecker in the playoffs. after the montreal series it was obvious to anyone watching that what he's doing out there is actually hindering the team. they keep giving him chance after chance and idk what they're waiting for. if toronto didn't have nylander and matthews i'd at least get why it would be hard to move off a ppg player but they can afford to, 100%.

been saying that since 2021 so i know this is overkill and not breaking any new grounds. i legit do understand the fans that are sick of it but i am doing it now and not just in the playoffs when he gets pushed around and whines on the bench and we lose again.

it would be a massive mistake for toronto to extend this guy. i fully expect them to though.

Yeah guys like Brayden Point, Patrick Kane, etc... You know, smaller players who actually show up in the posteason, just all these weird pre-existing biases that led to a bunch of media members abusing them for clicks eh?
You chose a center and a goal scorer as your two examples?

Kane is not a goal scorer, he's a dual threat. In fact he's been Marner's go-to comparison since he's been drafted.
Marner is not getting 40+ goals..Kane more resembles Nylander and I would not consider Nylander a playmaker.

I would argue kanes a play maker that can score what Marner was projected to be coming into the league

Wish I saw this before i wrote what I had to say well said though

I suppose Kane is a good comparison, it's just those two 40+ goal outliers that Kane had, other than those I see it. Interesting thing about Kane is his production also dipped to below a ppg in the playoffs but his goal scoring went up.
