He's pretty good defensively. It's overblown how good, but for a #1 offensive C he's one of the best defensively.
FWIW, I'm pretty sure that it was Marner's defensive play that made him so attractive to the Vegas organization which was following Cassidy's "defense first, defense only" plan at the time.

The people who turn every conversation into tax misinformation are idiots and should be ignored. You're wasting your time, man. They've not given it any thought other than being mad about it.
Except it's not misinformation, and dismissing it as a complete non-factor is idiotic. No state tax teams have somewhere between 10-14% cap advantage compared to most other teams, in today's cap, that's an extra $10-14M to play with and fit in a real impact player or two that others can't. That's a real and significant advantage you can't just waive away and pretend doesn't exist.

You can't equalize for location, weather, city living conditions etc, but the one thing that is within the league's ability and control is how much each team is allowed to spend on their roster, and it should be equal across the board for everyone. Right now, low tax state's have a real and tangible edge. It's not something that we just made up out of thin air, it exists, and should be addressed.

Didn't Desjardins do this in 1993?
He scored a hat-trick in that game and was the only Canadien to score in a 3-2 win.

But the Kings scored 2 times between Desjardins 1st and 2nd goals, so it wasn't a natural hat-trick.
