Marner is the better overall player. He's better defensively and plays on the PK.
But he can be flat out ineffective in tight games whereas Nylander has the types of attributes that can make a difference in such games (I wish he would use them more often, though). Both guys have some soft tendencies and neither is much of a grinder, but when Nylander tries, he can shield the puck, drive to the net and manufacture goals in ways Marner simply can't. However, Marner is generally more aware and involved defensively.
Nylander more heart and has another gear????
Nylander floats 90% of the time
There's a lot more to hockey than watching highlights
I mean this argument goes both ways, Marner also gets to play with far superior linemates 99% of the time, while Nylander has to carry a declining Tavares and whatever 3rd/4th liner plug they decide to put on LW.Marner typically plays against the better defensive units IIRC.
Nylander has a bit of that Martin Havlat role in Ottawa where he plays a fair amount on the 3rd line and feasts on weaker opposition.

.Nylander gets a lot more rope too (and rightly so) because his salary isn't in the same range.
Those are two different things.Nylander more heart and has another gear????

Since when is Marner “on another level with speed” ??Marner without a doubt.
There are lots of games where Nylander makes more of an impact, don't get me wrong. He has a ton of talent. But it's Marner far more often that dictates the game. He's on another level with speed and passing/playmaking. Add in the PK ability and you can't convince me it isn't Marner here.
He doesn't play a fair bit on the 3rd line, he just got experimented with there when the Leafs were on a recent losing streak, for the most part he's been on Tavares' wing and here and there gets switched to the top line with Matthews.Marner typically plays against the better defensive units IIRC.
