I am not a Mitchie fan by any stretch of the imagination, and have said so many times. I will eat crow here for now, but since he has gone with JT, he has been a force. Forechecking fiercely, back check, everything. Clearly been the Leafs best player. Little concerned about 34. D wise, soft passes and flips, blind passes up the middle. And he needs a playmaker. Though I am impressed by Bunting, if he can stay on his feet. Thought I was watching Hyman.
I thought 34 was carrying 16? Or is it JT again, hard to keep up.

Once Marner's rhythm and confidence returns, look out folks.

He's the best playmaking winger in the league.

One of Tavares and Matthews is gonna bury.
Not lack of confidence it us lack of attention, desire and effort. For 6 games he was living a dream. He forgot what it took to be elite. When JT struggled you could see effort, in the corners, in front of the net, with MM, he never got to the corner, of anywhere he might get hurt. His mind was not on hockey.
Remember he is suppose to be a winger who can drive a line....he is not doing that. He is still being pulled by JT.
He still has another 20% to go. Hope he fies it and earns his bucs.

All true my friend. I am also proud of him, but will never write it, since I enjoy to hate him online. He is a special player with highlight reel plays! :)

He’s been good but I’m sure even he realizes he’s the odd man out if they fail to go farther in the playoffs.

Nylnder is on a steal of a contract. Tavares is great but has an NMC, trade Matthews and the entire fan base will quit. So that leaves Marner.
Have a question for you ?
If as you say fail in the playoffs , which is possible for this team.
Who would you rather not coming back to play against us if traded ?
For me it is Marner, especially with a bur up his ass.
Willy won't have the same impact.

Mathews seems to need someone to get him the puck . Marner
Tavares seems to score more with Marner.

If I'm trading anyone , it's Willy.

Marner put himself in a tough position this year where he can win the art Ross and it would mean nothing until he shows up in the playoffs
Regular season means a lot, only good teams can finish top 3 in the league. Playoffs are a crap shoot where anything can happen.

MARNER disappears in the playoffs. Also $11 million. lol.

also- zero playoff round wins with MM or this core lol.
The people crying about Marner's slow start now say "only the playoffs matter" that he's doing ok, which makes their crying make about the first 10 games of the season make no sense.

A lot of back pedaling and/or goal post moving from the people who acted like Marner killed their dog.

Marner has definitely upped his game but no surprise he started piling up the points once Matty and JT started to light the lamp. What a shot by Matty on that PP goal last night and great pass from Rielly.

Nobody said Marner wouldn’t get his regular season assists.
Sorry but games 8-12 where the 11 million dollar player is playing better doesn’t do it for me.

It might do it for Dubas, but let’s see when it’s job on the line time.

"Hate" is a strong word. Just as Nylander before, if he doesn't play a committed, hard-nosed game, he can set up as many fancy goals as he'd like it won't translate into playoff success.

I've tried to be objective and fair in my assessment, leaning on the 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" mantra most of the time. I'm glad when Keefe calls them out though. His job is to be more honest and direct.

This team was last year and will this year be measured on post-season success. It would be great to see players hit 50 goals or 150 points, it won't register with fans unless the team is closer to a Cup and eventually raises one. My interest in this team is far more pedestrian than in years past due to this lack of playoff performance and sacrifice.

Marner doesn't need to throw checks every shift or be in every scrum, but he has to have fight for the puck. It's what Nylander has visibly improved upon over the last couple of years. He's much more willing to go into corners and he's more difficult to push off of the puck. The confidence he exudes illustrates that HE knows he's a "tougher" player.

When you earn the big salary the critics will rightfully question your worth relative to Cap space. That's the deal in professional sports. Hell, in Toronto I hear critics of players making minimum wage, even if they are playing a solid role on the team and doing their job as expected. The very minimum expectation is commitment and sacrifice.

Taking a small sample, or even a full season without playoff success; is not a wise barometer on how any player or team will be measured.

Regardless if he’s hot or cold I have zero confidence that he and the core players can elevate their game to beat the likes of Tampa, Boston, Washington when it matters most

What a stupid thread. Mitch's issues have always been the playoffs. Ppg is freaking expected of a 10.5m player in the reg season smfh.

Marner takes too much internet abuse on this forum.

He's only a kid.

He's trying, he just has not figured it out completely.

Marner should play more like Marchand, not that he should be a dirty rat, but the rat gets most of his goals around the net. The rat does not have a great shot either.

Marchand is the type of player that almost always raises a Cup somewhere. I hope these younger players see these player types and realize that it isn't the juniors, men get it done in the NHL through sacrifice and out-willing their opponents.

Glad he’s playing well now, we need that.

tbh he should have had 5-6 assists in the first 5-6 games but other players weren’t putting the puck in the net. I’m just happy his grip on his stick has loosened since that first goal he scored.

Nice to see him play to his ability because it's been such a long time, guy was dominate last night.

He seems to elevate his game against the Bruins.

Individual scoring chances created in the NHL ranking this year so far:

1. Tavares
2. Matthews (missing the first 3 games)
3. Nylander
4. Ovechkin
5. McDavid
6. Marner

Pshhh what a scrub. He's only 4th best on the team.

Man, the Leafs are finally starting to get some bounces lately but they should have a ton more points.

I’m fine with trading any of them, quite literally any if the package is fine. I just feel your reasoning works both ways. If trading nylander is beneficial because his impact is lower, so we won’t get burned as bad, then that may not be a significant enough change as firstly, the team fundamentally will be the same, with someone like Robertson or amirov taking nylanders spot in a year or two anyways and secondly, the package we get pack might be not as sweet. An 11m man deal opens up a lot of cap flexibility.

knowing the leafs and the voodoo around former players. If we trade Marner he’s gonna become Marchand, if we trade nylander he’s gonna become a more point producing Gabriel landeskog.
