That's it. Plenty of situations where we needed a highly talented center while we had options on wing, and Marner was still not used there. It's not been explored as an option at all. Marner could probably play center given his skill set, but right now he's a winger who might be able to transition.Actions speak louder than words.
The counter-argument seem to be that the coach won't do it because the Tavares line would fall apart completely without Marner on it. Of course. However that would be the same coach who had no qualms moving Nylander to center a non-factor line even though that meant nothing was done about a Matthews line that was falling apart, in desperate need of a transition and playmaking specialist. Babcock has already shown that he'd prefer the center depth over filling an important winger role. He's shown he would do just the kind of move that would put Marner at center in times of need, if he saw Marner as one.
On a related note, man some of the posters in this thread must think that Tavares is the most unnecessary acquisition we've made considering how he's seemingly a product of Marner, to the degree that the effect stretch retroactively into the past by a decade.
This thread is funny. All it lacks is a happy ending.
