Marner will remember that the team tried to trade him.

He is not about to uproot his life on a whim for 2 months. Of course he blocked it I don't blame him.

He will weigh his options in the summer when it is a more appropriate time to move and talk it over with his wife and where they might want to raise a kid that is on the way. Likely isn't gonna feel the love from a program who just tried to trade him.

You give 9 years to a program, and they try to trade you while the group is in the thick of things. That is the thanks he gets.
Shanahan is also in his contract year, if things go south he will throw marner under the bus hard at his annual year end presser

No Leafs fan with a brain gives a shit ahout his performance in the regular season anymore and nor should anyone else.

He could outscore f***ing McDavid and it wouldn't mean shit until he steps it up in the real season where big boys play. At no point has he done that. Never. Neither have Matthews or Nylander either but they've already been extended for better or worse.

They can move on from Mitch in July and unless he miraculously becomes a playoff God all of a sudden that is EXACTLY what they should do. Changing the culture takes precedence over all other factors. The culture is complacency. Cowardice. Failure. Style over substance. We have had enough of it.
Real story:

I’m a blues fan but I’ve watched y’all an absolute ton, basically every playoff game for years and years.

I was entirely thinking or saying the things you are now.

The 4 nations tourney changed me. Truly like a light switch. Marner wasn’t like a tournament god but I saw what I saw. He’s transcendent. Literally do not care about anything before that moment in his career. His patience aggression mix in critical moments….him and Makar together….so impossibly elite against the best.

His first period versus the US was one of the best periods of hockey I’ve -ever- seen.

Friedman just said that Marner says he wants to sign. And it was all handled professionally.

Going to play out the year but he wants to sign

I’ll suggest:

St. Louis will send Kyrou to Toronto pre draft and sign Marner.

Kyrou is actually pretty good and best of all, cost controlled. He’s nowhere near Marners level but you also don’t have to pay him like he is.

Meanwhile, Missouri is passing legislation that will change its income taxes.

I’m a whiner about the salary cap and the tax situation and I’ll still be one even if my team is a beneficiary. I’ll also do that while wearing a Marner jersey.
Kyrou going to a Berube coached team after what he said when Berube was fired? Good luck with that.

We've been a perennial winner for 7 seasons at this point. We spend to the cap every season. How are we not a desirable situation? Come on, clearly there are players who like to play here if we're using all of our cap space every year.
I don't disagree with you but it's funny Rantanen wouldn't sign there but did so in Dallas quite easily it seems.......

Why do you think that is ?

The Leafs haven't burned any bridges with Marner.
The fans have. Leafs fans boo him in his own barn, constantly trash him online, heck they even held him at gun point and stole his RangeRover. Leafs fans chased him out of town just like they did with Larry Murphy.

I am a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I care how he does in the playoffs, not some international tournament that shows how few countries in the world actually give a shit about this sport. I deliver my patriotism in my day job and don't need to fake it at sporting events (not directing this comment at you specifically; you have said nothing that warrants this type of response but I'm on edge because I'm caught in the crossfire of my country's war on civil servants, so please forgive me.)

If he becomes a shark with a thirst for blood in the post season and carries us into a deep run I won't bitch endlessly if he's re-signed. If he's the same soft poseur in the postseason that he's always been to date, he can go and take his overbearing family and agent with him.

Agreed.

EDIT: wouldn't be surprised if Marner comes to Detroit as a UFA.

That seems even weirder? Why would Toronto tell Marner that another team wants to trade for him if they’re not interested? I’m sure plenty of teams have approached Toronto about Marner, he doesn’t need to know about them.

Of course they are interested in hearing any possible trade, what kind of moronic team wouldn't listen to offers?

He was second in scoring only to Hintz in round 1 a cople years ago to be fair......

Not all on him but 1-8 in playoff series' in this era is rough though...........No way around that......

Of course it's not all on him, but the 2 other poseurs are already signed and there's nothing we can do about that.

Marner and Tavares are the only ones we can move on. If we lose in the 1st round yet again we'd be stupid not to.
