Why is marner the only person I the nhl who plays practically every position and has for years. How come others aren't dangling and deking like him days in days out, breaking records and breaking up plays co sisterly no matter who the opponent is. Making any and every player better since they got in the league as soon as they meet. He can have their data down flat with their weaknesses and strengths down pat. How come marner is the only one to have his iq revered constantly as his main selling point from radio hosts to revered current and past historic players. You say marners high iq isn't that's pecial and a lot of players have it and I completely disagree. If they had it they would be doing what he's been doing for over a decade and a half with whoever they play with. But they don't and if they could they would
I said Marner's hockey IQ is right up there with the best of them that have ever played. I don't think I ever used the word special but if he's not special, then I guess nobody is.

TBH, I would say Gretzky's hockey IQ/vision is higher and if that triggers somebody, so be it.

Here is video of O'Reilly talking about playing with Marner.

'It's unbelievable': Maple Leafs' O'Reilly adjusting to play in line with Marner

I can't see this now, restricted in my area for some reason. I did watch last night but by then I was ahem, feeling good so I don't remember much. But geez, who wouldn't love to play with Marner, he's pretty much a dream linemate.

Last thread is well beyond 1,000 posts, and we're past the All Star break and gearing up for the playoffs, so time for a new thread.
This thread is for appreciating our magical talent, Mitch Marner!
Marner currently has 66 points in 57 games - roughly a 30 goal, 95 point pace.

He's coming off a game where he just scored his 20th goal of the season (5th time in his career) on a beautiful deke.

This has been a season of records and milestones for Marner... Started it off with a franchise-record 23 game point streak:

Followed it up with a franchise-record 20 game home point streak:

Had a little fun and set a tournament record at the all-star game:

And then finished it off with his franchise-record 7th consecutive 40+ assist season to start his career:

During that time, he scored his 500th career point:

And picked up the 2nd highest scoring calendar year in franchise history:

Currently chasing other records:

3rd in the league in points since 2020.
3rd in the league in 5v5 points since 2020.
2nd in the league in 5v5 points per 60 since 2020.

Also often going underappreciated as one of the best PKers in the league. 5th most shorthanded points in the league since 2020, while simultaneously having the 5th best on-ice SH xGA/60 of the 59 forwards with 300+ PK minutes over that time. Best high danger chance percentage in the league on the PK - placing #1 in preventing high danger shorthanded chances against, and #3 in generating high danger shorthanded chances for.

And we shouldn't forget his skills on the PP - where he has the 7th best PP points per 60 since entering the league in 2016.

Announcers can barely even fathom his brilliance:

For our viewing pleasure, some of his career highlights:

What a special player we are witnessing. He's been buzzin', that's for sure!

Horrible game last night, but isolating on Marner, he was winning pucks almost every shift. That line is disjointed right now a bit, but individually, he was dialed in, his awareness and thievery was pretty impressive.
I think each of the players individually on that line are doing well, but they don't have the timing right together.
Maybe practice will help sort things out, but I'm not a huge fan of Tavares on wing.
The Marner goal was a beauty though!

That’s what i see as well, individually fine, just not quite jiving together yet.

Every single player on the roster be if it’s greatly from playing with Mitch, and suffer away from. The straw that stirs the drink. Need him to be his best in the mist important moments.

Wayne Gretzky is the player that put this idea in my head many years ago: I'm convinced some people see the game at a slower pace than the rest of us. Maybe it's a sliding scale for all of us and time slows down for al of you compared to me. Mitch reminds me so much of Gretzky in that way. He just seems to have all the time in the world with the puck.
