That might be a good thing, because when Bunting was in Toronto refs targeted him, they would look to make calls on him, they grew to HATE him.

Seems highly unlikely that ANylander is going to become that much of a prick on the ice to worry about that. In the meantime, the Marlies get a very good AHL-level player which they have done before.

Decent “show us what you got” with a fallback AHL contract. Likely thrown a bone due to his brother.

Don’t get why a team didn’t take a flyer on him. CBJ picked him up as a reclamation project, he reclamation like an animal, looked to have found his scoring touch in the League. The draft pedigree plus that performance should have got him a look somewhere.

Good and bad singing. Nylander is a great player who has NHL potential. He will live with his brother which is great. But, Toronto has offensive depth.. a lot of it and he strikes me as the kind of guy that will need top 6 time and pp time to shine. Not sure he can get that on a stacked forward squad in Toronto. He will probably tear up AHL.. get called up when injuries happen and get bottom 6 limited minutes and be sent back. Think he would have benefitted going to a team that needs goal scoring.
He is abolutely NOT a great player.

Leafs are cap strapped so this is a good workaround gamble. Hopefully his brother can help him develop his game

It’s an AHL contract, not a 2-way, so couldn’t be called up.
Unless they can rip it up if leafs need him, and make a new 2-way one, not sure how that works.
That is exactly how it works. If they (or any team) thinks that Alex can hold an NHL spot, they would have to offer him an SPC.

If another team offers him a contract, Does the AHL team, have to agree to let him out of his contract, or do players have their agents have a clause put in,
if offered an NHL contract, player can get out of AHL contract.

Yes, any team can offer him an NHL contract.

He should've got at least a two-way deal from an NHL club imo. Smart by Leafs, saving a contract slot.

They don't need the contract slot though perhaps they can use the AHL deal to get around waivers if he doesn't make the team outright or if there is a cap issue that they have to solve.

That's true as well. It's a smart move by the Leafs in many ways.

He’s 26 years old and has accomplished jack shit in the NHL. Drafted and still hanging around solely because of his last name.

Will be back in Sweden or play in Switzerland next season. Same with Lias Andersson. Both equally disappointing from a Swedish pov.

Pretty much.

More info from THN:

With an AHL contract, Alex would likely earn an invite the Leafs training camp this fall. If he impresses to a point where his services would be needed with the Maple Leafs, the franchise could always convert the deal to an NHL deal. By keeping the contract at an AHL level, the Leafs don’t use up one of their 50 NHL contract slots and can use the time to evaluate Alex and see if he can become a useful depth addition on offense.

I think Alex will impress, I kind of hated how he was used by Sullivan and was happy to see him thrive, even if it was in CBJ. It'd be cool to see brothers on the same team again in the NHL.

He had a run late in the season in Columbus and his skill set is high end with good shooting and finishing ability.

Reportedly the primary problem is work ethic not ability.

If the leafs can get this guy motivated then they might have something here.

No risk high potential reward. If you can’t get motivated playing with your brother who is a approx 100 point player not sure what else will work.

Kerby Rychel, Josh Ho-Sang, and Alexander Nylander. Meh, meh, and meh.

At least Nylander can chill with his bro on off-days.

And I hope he takes care of the place during the Leafs' West-coast swings.
