I don’t really s*** on the sabres, but i was watching a clip on kevin adams and this one got me thinking.

He meets a young fan who is clearly well-read for her age. She’s been reading a pretty popular stats book and he looks at it as if it’s the first time he’s ever seen it. From that short clip, i sort of got the impression that the sabres organization doesn’t have a firm grasp on analytics. I’m not saying analytics is the be-all or end-all, but that video does not give me a good impression on their current affairs.

I think this is pretty fair to say. I don't know if things will improve under Adams (probably not), but Buffalo's drafting has been terrible over the last decade or so. Among the bottom of the league

After watching Hallander now three times this season I feel semi-confident in this scouting report:

I heard his skating was bad. I don't remember thinking that in his draft year, but his speed, and movement don't seem to be a problem whatsoever at the SHL level. I'll admit it's rather awkward and sometimes he looks like he's falling over, but it works. May be a touch behind in NA, but I don't think it will be a problem.

Offensively the guy makes the smart play, not the flashy play. He likes to make those little touch passes to his teammates to continue possession in the Ozone rather than make a low% shot- perfect compliment to one of our top-2 lines as basically only Hyman understands this concept when playing with Matthews/Tavares/Nylander/Marner. He basically plays in two spots: in front of the net, or the high guy. He's like a dog on a bone trying to get the puck back, and really reads the play well.

Transition is similar to his play in the Ozone. He starts low to give his defense an option, but (at least I haven't seen it) doesn't like to skate the puck through neutral zone too much. He's more of a pass puck through and let his linemates take over, and he's very effective at it. Again, another thing I love to see playing with guys like Matthews/Nylander/Marner who are all excellent transition players, and we wouldn't want him skating it too much anyway playing with them.

Defensively he's very responsible. He definitely could be a penalty killer in the NHL. He reads plays very effectively, never seems to be out of position, and is almost always the first forward back.

He's going to be a NHL player. He probably could be a NHL player this season, but I'd rather see him get big minutes in the SHL or with the Marlies to continue developing his skills.

Great work again. It seems he is the kind of prospect we were missing in our system.

So crazy to think that the Leafs are a contending team and our prospect pool under Dubas also looks to be very good.

You don’t always get that!

That SO winner... quite the shot.... I'm just amazed that he didn't try to pass the puck on that shootout... with a shot like that, maybe just take it once in a while?
He got some zip on that shot. He needs to become more selfish.

In hockey, you don't see both being good at the same time. In MLB, you do but not in the NHL.
Well done by Dubas

But I was told but one of the Finnish posters today that Hirvonen is a perimeter player that will never play in the NHL.
Main boards logic

If hirvonen manages to get 0.5 ppg by the end of the season, i will consider it a huge success. His pace is starting to pick it up and he’s playing with nick merkley. It may even pick up more when kotkaniemi goes back to the habs. I don’t have production targets for any of the european defensemen as they seem to be modern defensive.

The ushl/bchl prospects don’t seem to be progressing at all. Tverberg has 4 pts in 7 pre-season games. Schingeothe has 1 pt in 1 game, but his team seems to be in covid hell. Miller hasn’t scored yet. I know he’s probably behind the depth charts, but he’s 19. Fusco is in limbo at the moment and i haven’t seen him in a ushl game yet. Koster looks good though.
