Wheeler usually doesn't say steal this early

Veeti is an interesting case. I went back and looked at his international point totals going back to his U16 season, and every year except for his draft year, he was top 5 in scoring for his team, and right up there with Anton Lundell, even out scoring him one year (based on ppg since Lundell played less games). Definitely a steal.

That shot is f***ing ridiculous. That shot is god damn elite

Milwalkee Admirals cancelled their season. Most teams are barely profitable with gate revenue, I wouldnt be surprised if we get no AHL at all this year.

Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton not having their AHL teams in Canada will be annoying. I know there's a taxi squad, but that's essentially going to limit all their promotions to the taxi squad only.

Koster has 4 points in 4 games since the wjc absences. I wonder if the wjc players have to quarantine.

Knowing America, probably not.

What is interesting is USA released both Brisson and Beniers for the Americans but refused to release Power (and Johnson, although I am not sure he would have made it to that stacked offense anyways) for the Canadians citing concerns about the commitment required for the tournament and his school work...

So either Michigan cares half a crap about Brisson and Beniers' academics, or they just pulled a BS excuse to keep Power from playing for Canada to help boost USA's chances. If it was the latter, I would imagine Power is not very happy (unless he did not want to go himself). That seems like a bush league move to be playing with an 18 year old player.

Michigan said they would have released Power for the regular December camp, which they also did with their American players. It was the mid November start they had the issue with. The Americans didn't have that.

I guess there's still a hope for paid attendance at AHL games this season. Otherwise it would have made more sense to have the AHL teams tag along travelling with their respective Canadian NHL teams playing a shadow schedule. Then the AHL games could be played in the afternoon before the NHL games.

So they denied him the opportunity over 2 weeks when classes are already mostly, if not entirely, remote and he was still travelling to Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to play hockey games during that time? Why did those concerns not exist for Newhook, Holloway, and Levi when they came from BC, Wisconsin, and Northeastern respectively?

I highly doubt academics, especially 2 weeks worth of academics difference from players who were allowed to leave, was the cause. I think it is they did not want to lose one of their top defensemen all of November and December to let him go, while they would only lose York/Brisson/Beniers for 2 games before the tournament and maybe a couple of games after once they quarantine. Newhook and Levi have yet to play in the NCAA this year because of this tournament, and Holloway was only able to get into a couple of games. Michigan did not want the same to happen with Power.

So who's gonna be our prospects next year at WJC?

Hirvonen, Niemela, Artur, and maybe Ovchinnikov?

Hirvonen and Niemela are locks.

Ovchinnikov, Villeneuve, and Schingoethe are maybes.

Miller and Tverberg are probably not happening.

The rest is TBD from the upcoming draft.
