Looks like another Duszak. Undersized offensive defenseman putting up numbers in the worst conference. At least it's only an AHL contract this time.

Ya Button has been writing Lilly off since he's been drafted by the Leafs. Not really sure why. He's not like Hayes where he forms an opinion without even watching him. He has spoken highly of other Leaf prospects like Niemela and Abruzzese but for some reason doesnt like Lilly even though he has done nothing but improve every year and has been a top performer at both ends of the rink in the AHL.
So bizarre.
I guess he’s paid to make a take and do something to make people talk/be relevant, but jeez...Lili ranked at =>6?
Bizarre.

Absolutely not!

SDA should be slated to spend all next year with the Marlies.

How did he have a strong season in the KHL? He's supposed to be an offensive player but has very underwhelming numbers. His OHL numbers were also underwhelming when you're talking about a prospect who's calling card is his offensive ability.

I'll be surprised if SDA ever becomes an NHLer personally. I'm far more optimistic about Abramov, Abruzzese. and Hallander.
I was saying in terms of him playing with Robby there is some clear comfortability for both of them when they play together. I obviously agree with your assessment on SDA, which is why i preficed it as a stretch. At the end of the day, you cannot pay close attention to the stats of a NA bound player playing in the KHL. From all reports he looked good. And from his time so far in the Marlies, he has shown chem with Robertson, and has looked far stronger than he was even a year ago. Which was his biggest knock as a player. He still makes boneheaded plays, which is common for young creative players. But I don't think he is as far off as you think personally. This is a player leaf brass has been enamored with since he was drafted. Giving him an ELC after his rookie camp I believe. If he can come into camp next year and show chemistry with robertson, and him being on the roster allows for upgrades elsewhere, its certainly a possibility. Not a likely one, but its still an option.

This is the second time recently that he's outright name dropped Abruzzese while saying they expect him to be arriving soon - in August he said Nick "Probably has a faster chance of contending for a roster spot." Coincidentally says this after Button ranks him above Liljegren and Niemela on his list.

In the fall Noelle Needham (USHL Steel connection) said that he's "unbelievably intense in terms of his willingness to learn and process stuff". Seems in line with what Dubas said above. Apparently obsessed with reviewing video on his game.

Personally, saw him a couple times last year and he didn't "wow" me as much as the scouting community buzzes about. There's an Athletic article that compares his IQ to Martin St. Louis and Jack Han's paralleled it to other high-level NHLers (hard to believe). I feel like he could be the next prospect to break onto the scene out of nowhere and leap frog some of the other, more talked about Leaf prospects.

This forum views Abruzzese/Abramov as pretty interchangeable, but starting to think management doesn't see it that way based on the above.

Without diving too far into a conspiracy, Abruzzese gets pumped enough I almost wondering if they're trying to inflate his stock to trade him instead of one of the high profile players

I watched him once or twice last year as well and same thing, wasn't overly noticeable. He might be one of those guys that doesn't need to be flashy or dynamic to put up points. Just quietly produces with smart plays.

I feel like Abruzzese will be a Bozak type for us, which will be good value and make for a nice 2/3C in his prime.

Next week apparently. The Marincin hate needs to stop though. Absolutely nothing wrong with him as a primary depth defender.

If you switch primary to secondary I might/maybe would agree.
I have to think there are better depth options however. Wouldn't Rosen be a better choice?
Purely off the Marlies stat sheet he leads the team in shots and second in +/-.
Lily? Sandin when he is back?

Rosen is a PP quarterback, he isn't great defensively. Pretty much a wash between him and Marincin imo.

Liljegren and Sandin have passed both on the depth chart so as 9th and 10th those guys are fine.

We haven't found a true gem like that in a really long time. I'm hoping Abruzzese is that player. Just hope the off-year doesn't really screw him up.

I was hoping the Leafs would just sign him in the off-season.

Abruzzeze + Veeti

I would still say primary. He was very good when he stepped in for Muzzin. Obviously he has a very specific role out there (PK and bottom pairing defense) but he does that better than most #7 defensemen you will find out there.

The way I would do it is have Sandin (or Rosen if Sandin is not 100%) step in for Rielly or Dermott. Liljegren step in for Brodie. Marincin in for Muzzin (Dermott takes most of the ES responsibilities but Marincin can take the PK if we don't want to use Dermott there), and then acquire a guy like Hakanpaa to step in if Holl or Bogosian go down. Redistribute minutes as necessary.

I can just say you can look at other contenders' defenses right now and their #7's are pretty much as good as our #11 (Rosen) in that case, and our top 6 is about as good as any other too.

This is Liljegren’s 4th year and yet the organization has never given him a real shot
I don’t think they value him that highly and my guess is that they think he has physical tools but lacks vision and instincts.

Sandin will prove to be a far better prospect than Lilly :thumbu:

For which team after the trade dead line

FreeBird has really lost his fastball. You can tell no one cares anymore and his existence as a person that signs on to a burner account to try to get a reaction has started to take a toll on his mental health.

You used to bring more heat than this. Let me know if you need someone to talk to. I'm available in my PMs.
