What's the catch on a 6'3 guy with that shot that he hasn't been an NHL regular?

Not a great skater. Not a guy who can do anything to stand out at the NHL level.

He was a 13th/14th forward in a prime. He isn't anything more than that now. He is just playing on a really good team with very talented players and he is making the most of that opportunity.

Marner in his last season in junior had 31 points after the first 15 games. However Marner had 5 point performances in games 14 and 15. Only reason he's ahead Voit in points. Now unlikely Voit will match Marner's season, but just to keep in perspective the amazing start Voit has had.
Also would like to add that Marner was doing that with Tkachuk, Dvorak, Mete and Juolevi on his line while Voit is doing it with no notable players alongside him

He's looked great every time I've seen him in the Marlies' highlight package and the preseason with the Leafs. He's run out of chances in the NHL. He seems to be a good AHL player. Seems highly doubtful that a 30 year old suddenly "gets it" in his 6th organization.

While Voit is having an incredible start to his season and might be a top 2 prospect for us by the time the season is up, it is also important to keep in mind he is in his D+2 season while Marner did that and had an all time Memorial Cup performance in his D+1 year. I do think Voit could have top line upside if we're patient with him.
Good point. I thought of that too. Still it's a positive Voit isn't an overager.

Yeah that team was stacked especially the top line. If Voit comes even somewhat close to Marner's production, wow

He's never even excelled at the AHL level... until now. 46 points in 63 games with the Manitoba Moose in 2018-19 was his best year, but he was their second best scorer that year.

Strange that a 30 year old would suddenly break out offensively, but the right circumstances and chemistry can do that for a guy. It's a pretty small sample, so we shall see how he does going forward.

He's played mostly with Anderson and Abruzzese and Anderson has excelled, with Abruzzese really coming on the last few games. Anderson has 13 points in 10 games, Abruzzese 8 points in 10 games.

Even the second line has done pretty well, of Steeves, SDA/Holmberg, Gaudette... Steeves has 13 in 10, Gaudette 10 in 9, SDA 9 in 10 games....

We've got a lot of guys performing at an AHL high level, if we need further depth at forwards.

Mete was sent down

Benn just got called back up.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, I saw both play in the years we are talking about.
Voit may be having as good a year statistically, but Marner look infinitely more dynamic.

The bonus for Voit is having less 'real guys' he gets to have the puck more. With Marner, anyone of Dvorak, Tkachuk, Mete or Juolevi could be the puck carrier / disher.

Ya I don't expect Voit to be anywhere near what Marner is, just highlighting the fact that Voit is pretty much doing it by himself

Not to mention their team had something like 15 nhl draft picks....

London Roster in Marner's D+1
NHL Forwards
Mitch Marner
Matthew Tkachuk
Christian Dvorak
Robert Thomas
Max Jones
Kole Sherwood (undrafted)
Nhl Drafted forwards
Cliff Pu
JJ Piccinich
Chandler Yakimowicz
Daniel Bernhardt
+ Sam Miletic got an nhl deal.

Nhl Drafted Dman
Olli Juolevi
Victor Mete
Evan Bouchard
Brandon Crawley
Chris Martenet

Nhl Drafted Goalies
Tyler Parsons
Brendan Burke

16 drafted players, + 1 undrafted nhler + another undrafted nhl ELC

Ladies, Gentleman, and the others, Logan Shaw, AHL player of the week.

The leafs depth at 4th line is just ridiculous.

1) Kampf (elite 4 C)
2) Engvall (I know he's a 3rd liner on the leafs but I rate him as a 4th liner based on his recent play)
3) Aston-Reese
4) Malgin
-
5) Shaw
6) Gaudette
7) Anderson
8) Steeves
-
9) Knies
10) Voit.

It seems like the leafs have an elite top 6, good 4th line, elite depth, prospect capital but below average 3rd line. It would be nice if one of these guys could emerge from the pack and turn into a good 3rd liner capable of 20 goals. Or alternatively trade some quantity for quality (legit NHL 3rd liner).
