Good article on the top 25 prospects for the Leafs. I don't agree at all with Grebyonkin being 16th and Tverberg 17th though... that seems low to me.

Tverberg will be interesting to follow this season.
If he shows well in the AHL, It will be somewhat easy to project him to at least a high energy, physical 4th line type of player that does have value on winning teams. Obviously you'd like for the player to turn out to be more than that but for such a late round draft pick that would be a good win.

Agreed. I’m curious to see if he gets reps at centre or purely on the wing.
Lots of good prospect story lines to watch down the road.
NickRob’s health and gamestyle
Topi’s adjustment, Roni’s adjustment
Steeves and Abruzzese taking steps forward
WillyNeuve rounding out his game
Will one of the goalies steal the net
Should make for a fun year

Maple Leafs Prospect Topi Niemela Needs to Add 'Strength' Ahead of First Full Season in North America

The 21-year-old defenseman and one of the Maple Leafs' top prospects is participating in his first development camp in Toronto.

I may be the last man standing, but I’d take Denis Malgin back anytime.

I think he'll turn into an ok NHL player, but it's going to take time, and we don't have that kind of patience needed... given we are compete now.

I can't see the list. But, I read the top and it said Knies, Robertson and Woll had graduated. I assume Holmberg would have graduated as well then. With all those prospects absent from the list Hirvonen at #4 isn't a bad choice. But, Grebenkin at 16 and Tverberg at 17 with all those prospects missing while somehow their 5th rounder from this year has leapfrogged them sounds like the worst Leaf prospect ranking of all-time. I have Grebenkin as a top-5 prospect and Tverberg at #10 and that's with all the big boys still there. I started Hudson at #23.

"Grebyonkin used his smart stickhandling and driving play in part to earn a full-time ice time on loan with the KHL’s Amur Khabarovsk. He’s entering the final year of his contract. If he can earn regular ice time with a better Magnitogorsk side, he should set himself up nicely for a professional career in North America eventually."

the fact that's all that was said about him after winning the KHL's rookie of the year is crazy

Who’s that, Denis or SDA?

If SDA, that’s fair. If he can pick up a step, focus a bit more on the whole ice and shoot more often to be less predictable, he could make a good return.

I was talking about Denis, but it really applies to both. Malgin is a smart guy, he will find a way to make a niche. SDA needs a few years of growing into a man’s body, his biggest challenge will be IQ and decision making.

I’ve always liked his game, smart/heady two way play with the Leafs last year I thought.
Given his size and average speed, I agree - needs someone to take a leap of faith with him.
Plus, I always found the oppositional hindsight view of that trade painful, so will dig in my heals to oppose the opposition.
In any event, I wish the player the best and will keep tabs on him at a distance.

Any word on the prospects at camp. Curious if anyone has heard how Landon McCallum is doing?

Hard to be really stand out while watching prospects do practice drills. There hasn't been much on the camp invites. Moldenhauer, Cowan and Hirvonen have stood out so far.

They are doing a scrimmage on Saturday, so we'll probably get a better sense there.

If we really want to change our D... we could trade Nylander for Karlsson at 50%, and then sign Dumba.

Our top 4 could be..

Karlsson Dumba
Rielly Klingberg

I mean, that would certainly be a lot of excitement no?

There's stuff to like there, competing for the 4th line LW spot. I do think it's important to point put just how old McMann is, he's 27, older than all of Matthews/Marner/Nylander.

He's had a slow build up to become the player he is now so late bloomer is a possibility but at 27 he's not really a 'prospect'
