I wouldn't say they are an underdog at all.

Minnesota State dominates their weak ass conference, but there is more pure talent on Harvard.

Just watching the game now. Harvard has been bad defending below the red line.

Also watching Abruzzese skate, he's got a kinda high upright skating stride. It's interesting. They're down 1 now.

One of the better ECHL defeseman out there getting a shot.

Can't be any worse than Menell was this year, and both are offensive defensemen.

He needed an opportunity in the AHL and it is good that he gets one here.

Growlers can benefit from Hellickson in the mean time.

A coach friend of mine says there is nothing better than a big goalie. Petruzzelli had the bottom covered, and they couldn't go over him either.

He's never been a fan of small goalies.
I have to agree on this one. I think there was a time when being on the smaller end was doable when the average NHL shot was like Wayne Simmond's shot, but nowadays these guys are so damn good at getting that puck off their tapes quickly and accurately that you really need a big goalie to cover that ground.

To me, 6'02 is kind of the minimum height that I'd want to draft. If you even look at MAF, he has never struck me as a big goaltender, but he is still listed at 6'02. Sure there are anomalies (Shesterkin), but I genuinely think the bigger goalies are more consistent game to game. When you have to rely on your athleticism too much to compensate for your height you end up having more off nights than a bigger goalie that plays sound positionally. Jonathon Bernier is a name that instantly comes to mind. So much talent and ability, but he just couldn't cover enough of the net to cement himself as an everyday guy. It's unfortunate, because he really is as talented a goaltender we've had since Belfour/Cujo when looking at athleticism and reflexes.

For me, I like the goalies like Demko and Marky, those 2 play a style that doesn't lend itself to many off nights. They are the perfect blend of althetic, position and size. Petru Profiles very similarly, but just doesn't have quite as big of a pedigree as they did at the same age. But it's not like Petru is a slouch either, he's a 3rd round selection. So he's still got high pedigree IMO.

For a team like ours we don't need our guy to steal games often. We just need them to give us a chance each game. I think Petru has a real chance at being that down the line. Kallgren might be the most NHL ready goalie in our system, but Petru has always been the guy who has the highest ceiling IMO.

Abruzzese's season comes to an end. Now contract watch begins.

Here's to hoping kookoo wins game 2 and kokkonen comes and joins the Marlies. Would be a huge add to an otherwise shitty defense.

A Harvard degree is worth, well, a substantial amount both in money and prestige. I don’t know the academic calendar at Harvard but it might make sense for Abruzzese to finish his academic term before joining the Leafs/Marlies

Assuming it's a 4 year program he's still 2 academic years from a degree while turning 23 in June. He can finish his degree later and play pro hockey while making more money.

Harvard cancelled its hockey season last year but not its academic program. He has been a student for three years. If he took summer courses while using Harvard facilities for training, he may be closer to graduating than you think. Moreover most courses were probably available by distance means. He didn’t even have to be on campus to take courses. if term ends in a couple of weeks, he may wait to join the pros. Note that word “may.” I’m just speaking of a possibility

Oh ok that makes sense. Still think he signs now and finishes Harvard later. Waiting until you're almost 24 to play in the NHL when you could have been there at 22 sounds like a lot of money lost.
