I think the last time i felt that way was way back with Korshkov over Debrincat and Hart, which is pretty crazy

Felt that way with Barnes over Suggs for the Raptors but he proved me wrong reaaally quick:laugh:

i think most people wanted Debrincat

the other one was Travis Dermott over Brandon Carlo

If the Niemela hype train wasn't in full force before, it sure is now based on Kloke's article.
He says Leafs want to bring Niemela to North America whenever they are able to, so this might be his last season in Liga. The issue is Niemela will probably be on Finland's World Championship roster after his season is done, so that complicates it.
NHL scouts believe Niemela could play NHL games next year, and Pronman believes that too.
His offensive numbers get a lot of the fan fare, but scouts say Niemela has defended extremely well and the progression there has been amazing.

Leafs brought Nylander to the Marlies right after his last eligible World Juniors years ago. Niemela could follow the same path.

Didn't think about that. It's possible. I think he finishes the year in Liga and then comes over.

^ They have 19 year old forwards on that team that aren’t even scoring a point per game in the mhl. I hope they fail miserably.
Are you trying to insinuate that the Russian Hockey Federation prioritizes players in Russian leagues over NA playing and NA bound Russians???

That's Outrageous!! That never happens....:banghead:

I'm with you man, I hope they get their eyes pumped shut at this tourny. Makes zero sense how Ovchinikov is not on that roster TBH, let alone not even a f***ing camp invite. Am I missing something there? Not to mention how they handled the Abramov situation last tourney.

2 Bronze medals and a silver in the last 5 years is all they have to show for by having their priorities the way they are. Not exactly stellar results for a nation that is arguably the 2nd best hockey nation on the planet. Or at least historically has been. Not so sure I'd even say they are in the top 3-4 at this point with Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland all having far more success internationally as of late. But ya, keep doing what you're doing Russia, it's clearly the right formula....

I remember arguing with @SprDaVE about Debrincat, I told him he was to small and would struggle to succeed at the next level

Woops  couldn't have got that one more wrong if I tried

LOL we’ve all made huge mistakes! Yours is debrincat! Mine is Liljegren

Always value someone that can score back to back 50 goal seasons in the OHL.... BEFORE THEIR FIRST ELIGIBLE DRAFT! :D

I used to love size in prospects, Hunter fixed that for me though

Not the first, definitely not the last
I'm really liking Abramov so kiss of death on him

Dubas was pushing for Debrincat too apparently which makes it hurt more.

I remember debating about a lot of guys, Debrincat, Hart etc

Then we picked Korskov, WTF?
I remember the entire board being like who?

Nylander was on an awful team that was floundering in a relegation battle. Niemela is having a tremendous season. I don't really see the upside in disrupting it in anyway whatsoever honestly. Let him play out his season on his club team, play the world championships and then he can come over to start next season.

There is little room for him right now anyways. Menell will need to get more opportunities when he is back. Hollowell will likely get a number of opportunities. Duszak is TBD after his injury. Krys, Hoefenmayer, Hellickson, Biega, and maybe even Finkelstein (depending on his injury) could be in that mix as well.

Let the Marlies evaluate the current guys further. Niemela has a guaranteed spot on the team next year and we can bring him over in March or something. By then, we should have an idea of who is going to be kept around past this year, and we should be making some trades which could open up some spots as well.

That's fair. I'm just saying there is precedence for something like that to happen.

But I agree with you that it's unlikely he moves over. I would say he's likely to join the Leafs or Marlies if his season with Karpat ends really early.

Yeah, exactly. This has been happening for years and yet somehow Zine wants to deny it. Ridiculous.

What now?
You realize this is the 1st time in 15 years no North American based players made the team, right? Even so, what's it gotta do with Amirov and Salavat? What the heck does Zubov's roster choices have to do with Salavat's Finnish coach? Lemme guess, evil Russia!!!

It’s like claiming the Leafs are biased against NCAA players because Team Canada traditionally includes very few NCAA guys.

This is exactly what I'm talking about when I mention the words 'unworldy', 'stereotype', etc. Some of you people resort to concocting conspiracy theories and just love using stereotypes to justify your points of view. It’s like being in a room full of Don Cherrys.

I wanted Kale Clague, Sam Girard, or Adam Fox. Had them all as 1st round picks. I didn't want Hart, and I was lukewarm on Debrincat (idiot). I remember fighting people on those guys too. Couldn't believe people wanted a 5'7 goal scorer who played almost 100% of his OHL minutes with McDavid/Strome (idiot).

Whenever I think back to that draft I always think the Leafs could have (and should have) gotten the two best players in the draft (Matthews & Fox) because it was asinine Fox wasn't a 1st round pick, and they easily could have walked away with one of Debrincat/Girard/Hart to go with it. I can only imagine what our org would look like if Dubas had the 2015/2016 draft capital.
