The Naki
Marner will probably let Cowan stay with him during camp, help mentor him.

There is no 'versus'. Cowan more than likely goes back to London for another year, he's certainly not replacing a 100 point all star winger, that's ridiculous.

I could see Cowan staying with the Leafs but getting 3rd line minutes behind Marner (I think Marner stays) and getting some special teams time on our 2nd units

You think they'll finish worse in the standings if they don't replace Marner with Cowan?
i think if they run it back they ll be no improvement.watching these playoffs this club is in the bottom 16 of playoff teams ,with detroit and jersey likley to be better

It is possible the playoffs might have been different with a healthy team.
Not excuses, unless a reason is an excuse.
Nylander - missed 3 games
Matthews - missed 2 games
marner - just off high ankle sprain
Woll - injured

It went overtime in game 7 with those excuses.

Oh, and Keefe was coach.

... Prospects thread ...

Knies still a prospect? I think he's not.

So a healthy line-up with Cowan, Grebyonkin and Minten for energy.

dont forget McMann, he was a positive force and one of the few players who crashed the net with the puck on a regular basis, he may not be one of our top guys, but, he would have made room for them, because he was a scoring threat and couldnt be ignored or played soft.

Domi is a pure passer, even when he had clean looks, he only shot as a last resort, and Bertuzzi was a waste of skin, maybe if he dedicated as much to trying to score as he did in trying to get to Marchand he would have had a positive impact, rather than cause multi goals against.
...and for the last 2, thats's on the coach too, when you see players passing up shots, or running guy and always out of position you call them out and make them stop.

and on the OT loser, Pasta was Bertuzi's man, but he leisurely skated off for a line change when play was going the other direction. (Rielly as the defender should have also been all over that, but Marner got screwed because he was the only player on the ice with enough hockey sense to even notice what was happening, BUT, since it wasnt his guy, he was late getting over)

I'd sooner look to trade Rielly than Marner, especially with a 'better' coach.

I'd be fine with moving Rielly for some prospects/picks as long as it is pre-draft, and pre-free-agency so they'd have $7mm in available space to pick up some asset(s) to replace Rielly's minutes.

Rielly probably their best overall defenseman, and marner likely their best overall winger.

Need prospects / ELSC players into the line-up.

I wonder if Berube will have a different perspective on their "kids", as he seemed to be okay with them on previously coached teams.

One just doesn't get a feeling there is anything on the Marlies, but is that because of Keefe's reluctance to deploy them?

the marlies were pretty thin/weak, but, no reason Steeves or Bellows didnt get a look, and why Rifai didnt get a chance either, as he's a great skater and 'aggressive'
I think we have too many career AHLers and raw prospects down there
Hirvonen (injuries) should not take too long to get a look, and he can be a solid bottom 6 player
they also should have given Hildi at least 1 start too when he was up, just to see what he could handle.

IIRC Bellows would have had to sign a NHL contract of some sort and clear waivers?

Here's the full interview.
Grebyonkin talks about his initial time on Toronto, his injury, etc.
Also about making fun of Boston on social media during the playoffs.lol

You can probably get the gist of it via google translate or whatever

«Звезды НХЛ — такие же люди. Я не маленький мальчик». Гребенкин — о чемпионстве, дерзкой шутке и Америке

i get confounded with the clear to come up ...should only be clear to go down.
Yeah, it's only in unusual cases like this when dealing with an unsigned UFA.

If a UFA signs after the a certain date, I think Dec 15th but don't quote me on that, then they need to go through waivers to be assigned to the NHL roster.

Love it already lol.

Maybe doesn't translate well but I'd take another Yushkevic or Markov (yes I know they were D man) any day that don't give a f*** who they play. Just go play the game.

I'll never forget the Markov salute to Jagr after the Leafs beat out Pittsburgh in the playoffs lol.

Almost every team beneath is either young and about to get better, with no overpaid stars or like Det and Buffalo, stacked with prospects. With no picks next year, this teams window is way smaller than many think. In 2 years, they may have to tear it down.

nah. There's probably another 6-7 seasons left with this group, but it certainly isn't what it once was.

Remember when Buffalo’s rebuild was ahead of the Leafs in 2016?

We’ve been hearing these tings for years.

Key will be ELSC and minimum wage players contributing meaningful minutes.

If Leafs can only ice 2 lines of effective NHLers they're easy to shutdown.

If Leafs' lines 3 and 4 aren't a threat odds are the opposition 3rd. and 4th. lines can be because they don't have to defend.

They need at least 1 more scoring line.

I suppose he personally told you the reason? As opposed to the cap will go up a bunch, and he can get paid even more then?
I'm not sure how that's supposed to be a positive. "NHL superstar takes less term to extract every possible dollar and ensure he coninues to be paid more than better players!"

Leaf fans: "Yay?!"
