I've seen Elick and Emery ranging 18-40

Adding both would give our prospect pool a serious shot in the arm and add quite a bit of size although not sure how to swing getting both.

It will also take years for both to develop, if they pan out at all.

Impact centres are likely to be hard to come by for where we're picking too.

Niemela is more likely in that spot for 2025-2026. He will probably get a call up next year for a few games.

Yeah, that was my thinking too, might get a cup of coffee next year but 25-26 is likely his time to shine, likely at 3rd pairing RD to start.

I think there's a real chance he can make the team out of camp next year.

This is his fifth season playing professional hockey. He turns 22 this March, his development has not been rushed. Next year he'll have had more than a full-season playing in North America and be used to the smaller ice.

I expect he will be given an opportunity in training camp and pre-season to earn a job - if he shows he can help the team, he should be on the opening night roster.

Obviously, you wouldn't want him being the 7th guy in the press-box every night, but if he fits in to our top 6, he will play.

I think it's mostly a question of who he'll be competing against - if he's competing with guys like Timmins, I would bet on him making the team. If we bring in some more D, it might be a little tougher for him to make it.

Lots of games to go but Marlies need to get going soon if they want to get a for sure playoff spot. They are in a playoff spot by PTS% but are really on the edge.

Defensively, how does Niemela compare to how Liljegren played on the Marlies? Before Liljegren came up he was the clear #1. Can the same be said about Topi?

I'd think he'd probably still need to put on more muscle?

He's similar to Miettinen but has more tools. He's honestly worth developing more than Miettinen. I'd sign him.

Leafs only have 3 players who need to be signed this year. For a team that needs all the depth they can get I'd certainly roll the dice if he continues he should finish with 20+ goals. I don't think the ELC would be long anyways.

He's not as physical or "big". I don't think he'll ever be known for that, which is fine. He's pretty good defensively though in terms of moving the puck out of the zone in various ways and obviously his offensive ceiling is his biggest value. He does tend to over handle pucks and prone to mistakes there, which is something he has to keep working on.

Who are you guys liking for our 1st rounder this year (assuming we keep it)?
I'm biased, but I like Sam O'Reilly if we end up selecting around the 20's. I would also be interested in trading up for Demidov if the Russian factor causes him to slip into the late teens.

For those that watch the Marlies has Tverberg been as good as the number suggest and what is his calling card at the next level?

Just realized Tverberg is over a PPG after 22 games in his first full pro season. Impressive, rooting for this kid! I wonder if he keeps it up, if the Leafs will reward him in a game or two that are meaningless at the end of the season.
They should. Give him a taste as well as we can Guage where he is at, playing at the highest level

So Grebyonkin never signed an extension in the KHL correct? Is this with the intentions of coming to NA next season? Getting pretty excited for this kid as well. He’s big, can skate and shoot the puck. Seems like he can slot into our top 9 pretty easily.
