Maybe teams already knew, and Treliving couldn't get any value?
I can't see his value as nothing given his age and the ease which he handles AHL play but you wouldn't get a 53rd overall in return. He has value for a similar lost soul with another club or as part of a package. Sellers this time of year probably aren't teeming with young depth to compete at all positions so I think there are a number of other clubs that would have a real interest. First the team needs to know if he can be part of what brings back something they need, before they throw in the towel and just move him for a pick. Whatever Tre thinks his worth is, its selling low right now but he has said he doesn't want to come back. something has to happen or they are back in the same situation next year.

Steeves value as a trade chip is next to nil, given that he’s due to qualify as a group 6 unrestricted free agent…even as a throw in unless a team actively wants to extend him?
His value to the organization is highest as a Marlie.
Maybe they try the McMann/Benoit approach, but seems unlikely given how little chance he’s been given. Potential shame. Hope for him that he pulls a bunting.

Steeves has had multiple opportunities and done nothing with them. Maybe he gets one more? Could be like McMann but nobody is as good as my boy lol.

I see him as a similar player hopefully he can get there in a leafs jersey

No, while people have noticed a decrease in the volume of points, the development staff has been really working with him. He takes draws, he plays the point on the power play (usually cycles from the half wall) he kills penalties and his play without the puck has improved immensely.
He played center for a couple of games in the prospect tournament 2 years ago.
I though it was where he looked the best.

His stint this season was solid. He was aggressive, among top hitters on the team in his 4 games and wasn't a sieve defensively. Combine that with a fantastic AHL season, I think the Leafs are being very careless not giving him a longer look. Maybe that changes soon but doesn't seem likely unless they run into injuries.

Can’t compare Steeves to McMann other than as an older prospect.
McMann has legit elite speed and a killer NHL shot.

Steeves is on a heater scoring on 20% of his shots this season.
But 28 goals in 43 games deserves a call up to a bottom 6 that can’t score.

Steeves definitely deserves a shot at least 15 games straight in NHL. Last time he looked pretty good to me, lots of energy and hits and was in the right spots.
I love this guy. He has had 5 or more shots 10 times in 40 games. He has been held without a shot 0 times! I wish the Leafs forwards came to play like that every night. Free Steevo!

I agree. I thought he looked quite good. He needs more of a chance. Sure can score in the AHL.

Those multiple opportunities have been limited ice time on the 4th line
Not everyone can play 4th line, especially when you are used to big minutes and opportunities in the AHL. I don't think Steeves ever played 4th line in any of his hockey tenure

There's absolutely no reason why Robertsson gets all these games, opportunities and someone else doesn't.

Not to say Steeves will mount to anything, but we have to give opportunities to those who played well, paid the price. Steeves been with the organization 4 years now and been a contributor all those years

Minten struggling to get any offence
Are you referring to in general - 0 points in his last 4, but 10 points in 20 games actually slightly exceeds my own (low) expectations for his offensive output this year. Same with managing 4 points in 15 NHL games - or last night specifically (had 4 shots but no points in a 7-2 drubbing of Laval)?

(btw, agreed that Steeves deserves another look - if not happening here, is it possible an NHL bottom feeder would take him for a low pick? Or they may just wait until the offseason... - but, re: contrasting him with Robertson, it's worth keeping in mind that Robertson was an AHL stud too...)

The difference being, Steeves is 6' and nearly 200lbs, throws his weight around, and is now defensively responsible. If Robertson isn't scoring, he doesn't provide much else in value. If neither is scoring, you'd rather have Steeves on the ice.

Robertson's main problem is he doesn't take passes particularly cleanly, and can't get shots off fast enough at the NHL level. Those are pretty hard to overcome. Steeves doesn't have Robertson's shot quality, but I think he'll be move effective at the NHL level. Neither will ever be more than depth players though... but I think Steeves might adequately replace Robertson at this point, and should be given a shot.

I was one of Robertson's biggest supporters, and cheerleaders, but it's clear he just doesn't have it.

Robertson drives play better than Steeves.

If they are both doing nothing, just use Reaves.

Steeves has done nothing well at the NHL level.

He has "it" more than Steeves... It's fine if Steeves gets a shot, but if we are letting prospects practice and try to find their game, Robertson has 100x more upside, he's proven it at all levels.

Robertson has no spot on Toronto.

No fit.

Berube doesn't agree with you, I don't think most people in hockey would.

He is clearly an NHL player and has shown flashes of being pretty good, if we are trying out prospects, I'd rather work with the one with the most upside.

I doubt he'd clear waivers ...

Leafs need some players for practice since 3 of them are the Four Nations, I wouldn't expect this to a long-term thing. Leafs could rest Marner and potentially Matthews for their first game back... we'll see.
