If fox wasn't such an asscat when it comes to playing in Canada I'd offer bouchard plus for him.
No it isn't. Its to see if he can handle top six time. If he can't he'll get sent back down. He's untouchable unless he can get us someone like Rantanen or an Ekholm level defender
Come on man. Articles by Sid? I can't take him seriously. He was one of the guys that said JP made Leon better LOL
Plus size and strength, yep the clear choice for this team, if a deal can come together.Yeah, reading that it looks like Oleksiak is the obvious choice.
Rush defense, puck retrievals and outlet passing is what works best beside Nurse, IMO, and Oleksiak looks like the clear winner in all three of those things on there.

He seems like a guy primed to have his numbers improve elsewhere too.Plus size and strength, yep the clear choice for this team, if a deal can come together.
That is always my worry with this type of defenseman, puck moving, but if he does it well, the Oilers will be laughing. Add to that the skating and the size, he and Nurse look like a terrifying pair, honestly. He seems like a guy primed to have his numbers improve elsewhere too.
Despite his well above average passing and outlet numbers cited in the article, he's around the bottom 15% in the league in offensive zone time. His numbers probably get a healthy boost if you throw him onto the Oilers(the 5th best offensive zone time team in the league).
Agreed, Oleksiak looks like the obvious choice. Not much else on that list should be attractive to the Oilers. Oleksiak also has another year at 4.6 so he does provide some cost certainty and is in line with the Oilers strategy of targeting players who aren’t true rentals.Yeah, reading that it looks like Oleksiak is the obvious choice.

Yeah, I think that's aiming way too high unfortunately. If fox wasn't such an asscat when it comes to playing in Canada I'd offer bouchard plus for him.
We aren't getting Jones but him being on the trade board will hopefully lessen the demand and asking price for other top4 RDs.How do we fit in his cap? How would he feel coming to Canada after his brother and mom wanted his brother out of Canada for political reasons? I don't see the fit.
If Oleksiak can play the right side, I agree, he's the best choice. Although I expect we end up with Connor Murphy instead. As long as it is someone better than David Savard, ha ha.Yeah, reading that it looks like Oleksiak is the obvious choice.

This. If Dallas, the most likely competition for a good RD, goes after Jones, it's less likely that they go back and try to get one of our other targets. We aren't getting Jones but him being on the trade board will hopefully lessen the demand and asking price for other top4 RDs.

We should maybe be looking harder at Rasmus Ristolainen. I know he's had some bad years, but the reports out of Philly show that he's playing well defensively, and he is what we need most - a 2nd pair right shot defenseman. The sticking points for a Ristolainen deal will be;
1) Cost - Philly apparently wants a 1st and they already have ours, and I'm not sure if Risto is actually worth a 1st, outside of the "right shot defenseman" premium. If Philly doesn't get a 1st, it would take a 2nd and a good prospect - a Beau Akey level prospect most likely, and that also might be hard to swallow.
2) Cap Hit - at 5.1M, we would need to make room to fit Ristoloainen in. Arvidsson could be included, but that weakens an already inconsistent group of wingers (although Savoie getting a look might be a sign that they want him taking a top 6 spot anyway). Plus, with his injury last year and inability to convert consistently this year, would we have to pay Philly to take him? He'd be an upgrade for their roster, but at 4M, that's a gamble for them. Even if we do manage to find a way to squeeze him in, adding 5.1M means we aren't bringing in help in net or depth additions at forward. Plus he has a few years left on that deal, which could get in the way with having to extend Bouchard and McDavid soon.
The new blueline would be
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Ristolainen
Kulak - Emberson
Klingberg
With Stecher likely hitting waivers or being traded. There's not much help on the farm either, with Josh Brown, Cam Dineen, Connor Carrick and Ron Attard being available, but not worthy of a call up. We've seen two of them already this year, and neither really helped the team.
I’ve not read anything supporting this (or negating it for that matter). No it isn't. Its to see if he can handle top six time. If he can't he'll get sent back down. He's untouchable unless he can get us someone like Rantanen or an Ekholm level defender
I don't think Risto is a great fit. Stylistically, he's a lot like Ceci and we saw how that went. Nurse really needs guys that can defend the rush and get pucks out.I didn't even watch this clip, because I'm assuming that it makes him look foolish. You can find clips of every player that makes them look like a bonehead. Ristolainen also has a reputation for making mistakes that he earned fairly for his many years of buffoonery in Buffalo. I haven't watched much Philly this year, but a lot of the talk about him is that his defensive game is very good, but his puck moving leaves a lot to be desired. He might not be the ideal target, but I don't think we can write him off either.

Came here to post this. For years now, this team has struggled with opponents who forecheck the hell out of us and force turnovers in our own zone. The Nurse-Ceci pairing really struggled with this, which is part of why they were exposed almost every year in the playoffs. We're a puck possession team, and I think our blueline need to reflect that. Nurse in particular desperately needs a partner who can move the puck. No to Risto.I don't think Risto is a great fit. Stylistically, he's a lot like Ceci and we saw how that went. Nurse really needs guys that can defend the rush and get pucks out.
Also, I'd say Risto's contract is a non-starter. If he was like an impending UFA at $3M or something, sure, worth a shot, but at $5.1M with two more years after this, it could be a disaster.
Savoie is untouchable UNLESS we get something huge for him. It could be a possibility yes but do you see the team even trying for someone huge? All I've seen from Bowman during the season is waiver pickups and lazy attempts at getting helpI’ve not read anything supporting this (or negating it for that matter).
But what do you base this statement on?
My sense it could easily be either possibility.
Savioe isn’t untouchable. There literally are two players that are probably untouchable in this org. And I hate to say this, but as the window narrows, that too can change. I was 26 years old in August of 1988. It was shocking but since then superstars continue to be traded in the NHL.
I can't talk Gregor seriously either. This buffoon said Barrie is just as good as Bouchard a week ago LOL. He also said Ceci is better than TanevI think it was a Gregor tweet that was trying to imply Savoie was being showcased. But since it's Gregor, his opinion can eat shit

Agreed. Savoie is here to partly showcase him ahead of the TDL. He will be moved if there is any potential to improve the roster. He’s a player for down the road, not now, as far as this edition of the Oilers is concerned.Savoie is untouchable UNLESS we get something huge for him. Completely disagree, he's their best offensive prospect riding a prolonged hot streak in the AHL. They're calling him up to see if he can fit in the top six, allowing them to push a winger down to the third line, which will hopefully kickstart the offence a bit. He's competing for a spot on the roster in the playoffs, because the guys currently playing in the top six have left that door open.Agreed. Savoie is here to partly showcase him ahead of the TDL. He will be moved if there is any potential to improve the roster. He’s a player for down the road, not now, as far as this edition of the Oilers is concerned.
We'll be finding out soon enough. That said it would be wise of management to start to have some younger guys learn from Connor and Drai while they are in their primes so that they can help take some pressure off of them as they age.Agreed.
