Yeah I agree, the Texas team should have had about 4 blatant calls against before that one. Regardless, great effort by the boys. Really impressed by Moore and Liljegren.
Definitely, the fans had no right to complain about that 1 call.

Dickinson also put his hand on the puck on our PP to kill a bunch of time and to make sure we did not get it in their own zone. Also was not called.

I do not know. I did not watch much today, but he's usually pretty composed in net. More than I saw Andersen, especially when he was not in the zone.

He flops around all over, and often makes routine saves into an adventure.

I'd love to be wrong, but that doesn't work if you aren't Hasek.

it's certainly worked by making him into the best goalie in the league. Size and athleticism seem to go a long way for goalies now anyway

You'd have to believe there are no NHL goalies in the AHL then.

Garret Sparks wins 2017-18 AHL Goalie of the Year

After allowing only 74 goals on 1736 shots against, Garret Sparks is at the end of an incredible AHL campaign that saw him at the top of the save percentage (.936), goals against average (1.81), and shutout (6) rankings all season with his only competitors being goalies who have half the sample size he does. There was no other choice.

You can only be the best in the league you play in.

Go look at the list of guys who won that award, and come back when you understand it means next to nothing.

Well, the list does have some rather good NHL goalies listed.

However, I agree the AHL isn't the NHL, so winning there isn't really meaningful when measured against NHL success.

But since 1967 nothing of significance has happened with the Maple Leafs either.

On the topic of Sparks, always hilarious to me how much weight people put on his 17 game NHL sample size, when he was actually running a .920+ save % in the first half of that sample before the tank team ruined the rookie's confidence

I have a ton of confidence in Sparks and think he has a chance to force us into trading Andersen

He's literally the best goalie in the best league outside the NHL. If that doesn't do it for you, what could he have done that would? You need to see 25 straight shutouts or something? A sub 1.00 GAA? What do you want?
He obviously doesn't care about results. Only style. Pretty garbage basis for an opinion but there it is

Lots of players blow up good leagues. It doesn't make it translate to the NHL.

Absolute insane hot take. 0% chance this is the case. None.

What?

Felix Potvin
Manny Legace
Martin Biron
Dwayne Roloson
Jason LaBarbera
Ryan Miller
Cory Schneider
Jonathan Bernier
Jake Allen
Matt Murray
Peter Budaj
Garrett Sparks

3, maybe 4, sixty game starters on that list? And what of the names you glossed over? Many more who amounted to little or nothing.

There’s some really good starting NHL goalies on that list. If Sparks could become a starting NHL goalie we’d all be pleasantly surprised, so to say that the award means next to nothing based on previous winners is foolish.

It's as close or further to meaning nothing as it is to meaning something.

Do you people not watch the guy play? He lacks composure, has awful body control, is super un-economical in his movements. He flops all over the place.

In the NHL, guys will feed on those rebound flops for fun. I wish the best for Sparks, but it's very, VERY unlikely that his game translates to the highest level.

Will anyone else be heading down to Ricoh Tuesday for game 6 (if required)?

I highly doubt he becomes anything spectacular, but I imagine he gets a shot as an NHL backup. And if he keeps the puck out of the net, who cares how he does it? He was the best goalie in the league this year playing the way he plays. He actually plays similar to Mcelhinney

Andreas Jonsson - 12gp 6G 10a 16p
Trevor Moore - 16gp 5g 10a 16p
Ben Smith - 16gp 6g 8a 14p
Chris Mueller - 16gp 4g 10a 14p
Dmytro TImashov - 16gp 5g 6a 11p
Carl Grundstrom - 16gp 6g 4a 10p
Miro Aaltonen - 16gp 4g 6a 10p

list of leading playoff scorers for marlies and the bolded are all NHL prospects

No other team gets production out of prospects like the Marlies do. Going to be so important when the Leafs top end guys start getting the majority of our cap space.
