A 10 year rebuild is always a failed rebuild (or more than one failed rebuild). That means the player you drafted at the start is now a vet on the decline. Now where you want to be. A 3-5 year rebuild is a rebuild done properly.

Calgary doesn't have the luxury of having a proper rebuild lasting 3-5 years due to the eventual falloff due to age of Kadri and Huberdeau (yes Huberdeau has not played up to his contract currently but that's not due to age). It's either a 2-3 year rebuild and push for a window between 26/27 and 28/28 before tearing it down again, or a 7-12 year rebuild where we just twiddle our thumbs waiting for the Huberdeau and Kadri contracts to expire before we can start spending cap space again in 29/30 but not truly start competing until 31/32. In that scenario we might as well trade Kadri with retention to a contender, nobody is taking Huberdeau off us without us paying them though without a spontaneous EK65 caliber season from him.
