exactly - I am pretty sure Giordano would fumble the puck and turn it over and miss his assignments far less than Holl does regardless of what side he is on.

with all this being said - he is an improvement OVER MUZZIN AS WELL!!!!!!!!

you should always be looking to improve your team

A trade no one wants to talk about is - Muzzin for Giordano Straight up!
Seattle probably does it as they get a veteran with term and cost certainty

Leafs get the benefit of Gio (who is the better player now) and maybe roll the dice of getting him extended at 2.5-3.5 m for 2-3 year compared to Muzzin at 5.6

regardless, even if Gio walks - they shed 5.6 (Muzzin) - which can then be used elsewhere

Yeah that's a bad idea Gio is a rental, Muzzin has a contract

Why do you care so much about LD VS RD? as long as the player makes the team better that should be the focus

So, if we need a replacement for Holl, which I believe you've stated is the purpose here, should we get a Winger, who makes our team better? That's ok right? Making the team better is the focus? Right? If I've misunderstood, than please correct me.

If you want to replace Holl, and make the team better... you find a player who is comfortable, and experienced at playing the position he plays... that's RD. Why obtain a player, who isn't any good there, to take that position? Many guys are just better at one side... You pick up Gio, and you probably still are stuck with Holl. Gio means moving Sandin out of the lineup. Is that what you want, or are you looking at moving Holl out? You always start with what your end goal is, and then try and find a solution to that... That's with anything in life. If your goal is to replace Holl, find a Holl replacement... someone who can play RD.

I mean your 1st line of your post is ridiculous I have said I don't particularly care which side the acquired D plays because I don't my only question is would he make the team better?

But nowhere have I suggested trading for a winger to replace Holl

If you insist on the LD VS RD set up then move Rielly to RD, we know he can do it we have seen it.

Then you got

RD

Rielly
Brodie
Lilly

LD
Muzzin
Giordano
Sandin

Holl if we can't get rid of him is now your #8 D because Dermott is #7.

Dermott being #7 is not ideal but that's quality depth.

This is your problem right here. No, he's not that good on RD. Yes, he's been tried, and there is a reason that we've had to go out and get RD to play with him, instead of moving him beside Muzzin, or any one of the other many LD we've had.

Rielly to RD is not an option.

Is your purpose here, to replace Holl?

Muzzin is a 5.6 M shutdown defender that doesnt shut anyone down

just by virtue of replacing him/losing his contract and commitment to his contract - put you ahead of the game as a cap ceiling team - for Seattle it is the opposite

positive for toronto in a Muzzin for Gio Swap = it ensures the ability to keep Rielly's new contract AND resign Campbell AND Kase.

with commitment to Muzzin - that becomes murky

Vancouver
Leafs need an rd more than an ld. They should see what Winnipeg and Anaheim do at the deadline. Manson and Demelo could be available.

Or maybe someone with a long term contract like Murphy or Larsson.
