mike futa. Used to be an exec. Seems to be a friend? In this article.

Mark’s only goal is to compete for the cup
He should have done it it a flames jersey. Now he will do it in another jersey (never says seattle)
Mentioned tons of ties to Toronto.

I think it makes the most sense

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it happened

Seems like a bad move for Seattle to trade the guy whom they named captain for their inaugural season in that season. How many of the Jerseys they sold have his name on the back. Also dont think he would request a trade during his first season there. If he did then he should have never accepted the Captaincy. I highly doubt he gets moved. If he does I wouldn't be opposed to it though.

It would be a worse move for a team in desperate need of futures to name their best trade asset captain, and then just let him walk for nothing at the end of the season

I don't think it is a typical situation, there was an expansion draft, and given the freshness of the organization, they probably felt like it was better to have a captain than not. Most teams do not go several years without a captain. Gio had no ties to the organization or the city, he was simply just chosen in the draft. This + his contract situation makes him likely to be moved IMO. Seattle is no Vegas and they need to find a way to avoid turning into a Phoenix situation. If they can get reasonable assets in a trade, I would move anything not bolted down.

Regarding the Leafs, He would be a modest upgrade on the backend and definitely help with the culture that they should be trying to set. Not sure what the leafs could move for him though, he wouldn't come cheap, probably something like 1st, Sandin, and some salary.

No chance Sandin is in a deal for gio. Sandin can play top 4 right now if we needed him to and he has a very high ceiling above that of a top 4. Gio is great on the left side but he's been terrible when played on the right side this year. I'd rather go after someone like Scott Mayfield who's got 2 years left plays the right side and is much much younger.

There is 0% chance Sandin would be in that deal absolutely none

The Toronto Maple Leafs as of December 13th 2021 have 40 points, that is tied for 1st overall in the NHL.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a very good hockey team we know that, that is not up for debate.

What is also not up for debate is that the Toronto Maple Leafs are not good enough defensively.

In recent games the Leafs have had to come back from 3-0 down to force a shootout against Minnesota.

Hold on to beat Columbus 5-4 after being up 5-1

and then hold on to beat Chicago 5-4 after being up 4-1 which they were able to do because Chicago can't stop a puck their goalie was AWFUL on Saturday.

All these examples have taken place since December 4th and that doesn't even include the 6-3 loss to the Jets because at least that can be somewhat chalked up to a rookie goalie in his 4th NHL game in net, that was somewhat expected.

I know some will say "Sandin and Dermott are hurt." and that's true and that certainly doesn't help.

But it's the top 4 that's not good enough and specifically it's Justin Holl.

If the Leafs goal is to win a cup, and again The Leafs are tied for 1st overall in the NHL with 40 points their goal should be to win a cup.

If the Leafs goal is to win a cup Justin Holl CAN NOT be in the top 4 he just can't.

Mark Giordano bumps everybody down which means Holl isn't top 4 anymore and it means Rubins isn't the fill in guy.

Seattle will probably look to move Giordano so what are we looking at?
No. The Leafs dont want or need another slowish, old defensemen on our blue line. Hard pass.

Exactly. Unless there is a contract extension already in place or serious talks going on, Gio should be moved at the TDL.

I am fairly certain Gio is interested in chasing the cup or atleast be on a legit playoff team. The Kraken are not that this season. Also, highly doubtful they will be in a much better spot next season.

I agree he should be moved and the Leafs would be a great fit.

As good as they are, and as of today theyare 1st overall in the league in terms of points and worst case they will be tied after tonight.

As good as they are their top 4 is not good enough and their defense overall is not good enough.

I would suggest to you they need 2 d men, a top 4 guy like Giordano but also a guy like Justin Braun, Colin Miller, Keith Yandle, Scott Mafield, a secondary depth add because you can't have Rubins playing

Leafs need a top 4 regradless.

People make WAY to big a deal of RD VS LD
I think the leafs will have Liljegren play with Muzzin to start and see how that goes.

i can get behind a Holl replacement but im not convinced thats where the big move is going to be.

I'm pretty sure the Leafs want another top 4 D
Whose he bumping out of our top 4? Rielly, Brodie, Lil and Muzz are playing well, and our the top 4 on the Leafs. Gio would come here and be a 6 at best, and we dont need another bottom dman. You're in dream land thinking of Mark Giordano of 3 or 4 years ago. He's a shell of his former self. No thanks.

I'm not the one in dream land, I'm not the one saying ridiculous things like he'd be our #6.

So you tell me where he would slot in and what role he would play? Tell me why he would be a lock top 4 on one of the best teams in the league? I'm genuinely curious where your train of thought is.

Don’t want Gio anywhere near Toronto. Leave him in Seattle.

Well I thought there would be No chance Dubas would trade a 1st for a broken down Foligno and look how that turned out. With him, theres always a chance, usually not for the better.
