It's a combination of a lot of things. Torts has never been Gaborik's biggest fan, so when we added Nash and it was discovered that he was better as a RW than a LW, it basically meant that Torts no longer had to put up with Gaborik's inconsistencies because he had a shiny new toy in Nash.
Gaborik is also clearly not comfortable on the left side, but people like to say switching wings isn't a big deal and if he was really an "elite" player he'd simply adapt and this wouldn't be a problem. It's just plain old BS.
He's never needed elite linemates. He scored 40+ with guys like Prospal, Dubinsky, and Erik Christensen on his line. He's simply fallen out of favor, and as a guy who historically doesn't lend himself well to being the whipping boy, he's started mailing it in each night. I think he wants to leave as much as Torts wants him gone.
