It's a combination of a lot of things. Torts has never been Gaborik's biggest fan, so when we added Nash and it was discovered that he was better as a RW than a LW, it basically meant that Torts no longer had to put up with Gaborik's inconsistencies because he had a shiny new toy in Nash.

Gaborik is also clearly not comfortable on the left side, but people like to say switching wings isn't a big deal and if he was really an "elite" player he'd simply adapt and this wouldn't be a problem. It's just plain old BS.

He's never needed elite linemates. He scored 40+ with guys like Prospal, Dubinsky, and Erik Christensen on his line. He's simply fallen out of favor, and as a guy who historically doesn't lend himself well to being the whipping boy, he's started mailing it in each night. I think he wants to leave as much as Torts wants him gone.

No one who has watched every game this season can honestly claim that Gaborik has been giving anything close to 100% on the ice in the majority of his games this season. The blame for this lies on Gaborik's shoulders... Torts can't control Gabby's legs for him nor his effort level on the ice....

Im with the players, boss. I dont blame them for packing it in under this *******. Im not satisfied with their play, or lack thereof, but its going to be piss poor play that gets Tortellini canned. Id rather have that instead and just piss off the remaining 15. You know theyre going to do it anyway.

No trade is going to fix this team at this point. This team is lucky to win a round, let alone four. Im already looking to next year.

I don't think there will ever be an excuse outside of injury for a 7 million dollar player, but when there is no apparent reason for him to go from 40 goals to this abysmal showing, you have to wonder if the lack of motivation comes from tuning out the coach.

You would think the $90,000 that Gaborik earns per game would be enough incentive to motivate him to play hard and to carry his weight on the ice. This is the same coach he scored 40 goals under in 2 different seasons. Gaborik had plenty of familiarity with the coaching staff coming into this season. Again, I see this as no excuse for his lackluster effort out on the ice. A player earning that kind of money should be trying his best to perform and contribute out on the ice regardless of who is behind the bench - he owes at least that much to the organization that is signing his paychecks, not to mention to his teammates who are counting on him.

I think the lack of conditioning during the lockout because of Gaboriks shoulders might be an issue here.... Way out of shape

QFT. And to add to that, the divorce between him and the Wild was bitter, with Gaborik opting not to sign a 9/YR $81 million extension. A good analogy for Gabby is that he is sort of like the kid gets picked first in the school yard and doesn't pass, or try, but if he gets slighted by being passed on, then he's going to torch you out there.

In and out goal scorers are only good when they're scoring, and after four years of Torts and Gabby together we have enough between both parties to see that its going to come to an end. Gaborik isn't going to risk not to being able to cash in on a walk year, and he knows that a new start, and hype and success that may come along with it is going to result in a pretty hefty retirement contract. The dilemma is that you know he is going to be lights out next year, its how do you make the most of it. I am in the boat for trading him, and shoring up the holes in the line up.

All I want to know is why does it matter that Nash is a more complete offensive player than Gaborik - better stick handler, better danger, stronger etc... If those atributes do not reflect on the stat sheet? If these qualities led to him beig better shouldn't his gpg and ppg be higher? Puck possession and control and such don't mean much if you don't use it to convert on opportunities. Nash is certainly a more dynamic and exciting player to Gaborik but a better player throughout their careers? No way.

You mean to tell me he played with high quality players in Minnesota? A quick look shows me their top scoring center for several years was Pierre-Marc Bouchard. Other than the two years they had Demitra (and not sure if he even played with him) Minnesotas top scoring centers during the Gaborik years were: Wes Walz, Jim Dowd, Cliff Ronning (37 yrs old), Sergei Zholtok, Bouchard, Demitra, Koivu (year he played 17 games)
