Marian Gaborik

Which is why im saying shoulder issues are a possibility. Whenever he was injured before, he was just as tentative and disengaged. I see no reason why its any different now. Playing on the other wing exacerbates it since hes a natural RWer.

Maybe. Didn't they say that he would be back in December/January if we had a full season? It's March now. Again, I'm not familiar with these shoulder injuries, but I still think that we should be getting a better effort.

I know people who have taken much longer in the rehab process.

Gaborik mightve been cleared to play before the season started, but he mightve re-aggravated it and is taking injections for all we know. Theyre very tight-lipped about this stuff.

He doesnt look the same, which is why I think this.

I could be totally wrong though. I have no idea.

I don't think anyone expects Gaborik to be barreling through players like Nash or blocking shots like Callahan every game.

I want to see Gabby move his feet more, play with some urgency, and try his best to put himself in a position to get open so he can snipe one. It's really not asking a lot, and these are things that he can do regardless of whether he plays LW or RW.

This pretty much sums it up. Except like vtsk mentioned, some people here do have those unrealistic expectations.

Regardless, Gaborik isn't playing with any life out there. He seems to be going through the motions; he gets this way sometimes and it is very frustrating.

Id rather watch him on a better team and away from illogical fans.

Right! Do us all a favor and get Mister Softie the hell out of here because most of us Ranger's fans who can actually see the forest from the trees without making a bunch of ridiculous excuses for "the stereotypical eastern european chump" that Gaborik is are all tired of his sorry, pathetic act of playing hard when the mood strikes him right! Enough already, just move his sorry ***!

Enjoy scraping more wins and being a bottom seed then.

Hard work doesnt win on its own, and as a Ranger fan, im more concerned with adding more talent, not adding more grinding. The last several years have been appalling to watch.

Enough of the ****ing grinding.

You wanna watch a team that has "jam" and earns their paychecks? Go watch Columbus. Go enjoy jostling between 23rd and 30th place, all because you love hard work and enjoy scraping out wins and high blood pressure.

Be my ****ing guest.

Not for nothing, we have a serious dearth of talent on this team and we will be one of a handful of teams battling right down to the wire for a playoff spot.
Nash was a good start but it's painfully obvious that Richards isn't the player he's been in the past and Gaborik is having one of those classic off years like the 2010/11 season.
I really believe that we'd be better off buying out Richards and trading Gaborik moving forward.

Not until the offseason at the earliest.

Its downright ****ing foolish to get rid of the two players most responsible (the other being Lundqvist) of your playoff run just 25+ games ago.

25 games is not the difference between keeping them and getting rid of them. Im sorry.

So let me understand your point; you're either a talented player or a grinder? Like a player can't be both??
Tell that to Wayne Symmonds, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, to mention only a small handful of players that are both talented and are also hard working grinders with jam(if you will).

Youre dreaming if you think Simmonds, Getzlaf or Perry are going to be on this team.

Trades are a two way street fella. This aint NHL 13. I forgot though, this is Rangerland.

Gee, I wonder what Gretzky's doing lately.

Its like the real-o-meter with this fanbase is extremely low or just flat out doesnt exist.

We lost a game and the Gaborik thread is alight again. Interesting.

you guys

can defend gaborik all you want. The bottom Line is the guy is paid big money to be an offensive threat EVERY GAME. Ive never seen a more inconsistent timid (star) in the league then him. he looks disinterested or hurt. whichever the case may be he should not be on the ice because he is not helping the team and is taking prime ice time away from players that would actually play with their heart and soul. Both sides need a change of scenery me thinks.

Who said anything about those players being on our team? I mentioned them to emphasize a point that you made.

Let's face facts, this team is going no where fast with the lack of both talent and secondary scoring.

Personally, I rather they not make the playoffs than crawl into the 8th spot on the last day of the season and get whacked out in 4-5 games by the Bruins, Pens, etc.

Spoken like a realistic Ranger's fan who isn't interested in making excuses for when our so called stars disappear or are missing in action.

Well done!

If we're not getting goals from our best goal scorer (Yes, gaborik is still that), you're not winning anyway... There's only so much grind grind grind you can do. You have to have you know.. actual talent to win a cup.

Win a cup?? People around here should be clicking their heels together if we find our way into the playoffs. The opportunity to win a cup came and went last year when Sather dropped the ball at the trade deadline!

the

guy can't be getting 7.5 mill a year to play like this. Its a disgrace. his speed is his best weapon, he doesn't use it. his hands are world class and he only shows up every 10-12 games, its a disgrace. its a disgrace that a player of his caliber can be scratched multiple times from a coach that has stuck up for him again and again. i don't know if you guys are watching the same games as me sometimes, i really don't. some of the opinions of this guy are just flat out scary. Look, if he was constantly burning around people or getting robbed by great goal tending and ripping pots and crossbars i wouldn't open my mouth about the guy. WHERE'S THE FIRE!!!

No we don't. We have a lack of consistency and effort.

yes

consistency and effort is not always there which is problem number one. the other big problem is the system. real life is not a video game. you can't throw nah gaborik and richards on a line and expect three 85 point players either. the system which torts has in place in great. pounding, grinding lunch pail hockey, and it could be very very successful.but you have to have the personnel to run this system, if you don't it just looks like dump and chase hockey like we have been seeing. the best weapon in this system is puck possession on the fore check down low getting a pass back to the point for a shot from the dmen and then hoping the shot gets screened and goes in, or it's deflected, or our forwards down low bang home the rebound. that's this systems bread and butter. the rangers do not have point men with that heavy shot or uncanny ability to have "a puck with eyes" get thru. Look up the stats. when NYR is successful their dmen rack up assists.. problem is that no one is a constant threat. theres not letang karlsson heck i'd even settle for souray. Del zotto does it, but not often enough. if this is the type of system they are going to run this is the biggest thing that needs to be addressed or it will fail over and over again. the best offense in the NHL is teams that generate it from their point men.

Gaborik really needs to be playing on the Right Wing. He is struggling too much on the left.

To his credit I think he has looked really good playing the point on PP and think he is a large reason why the PP has looked better in recent games.

Yeah he hasn't been bad on the power play but at even strength he's be largely ineffective and a non-threat... I don't understand why a guy with so much speed struggles to beat defenders or to stick-handle around or through them... He's really bad at using his speed and shifting directions to elude defensemen when he has the puck. He basically has 2 ineffective moves in his repertoire:

1) Try and push the puck past the defenseman and go around the opposite side (which inevitably results in the defenseman just playing the body and Gabby can't get to the puck to progress forward)

2) Stop moving his legs and try to push the puck under the defenseman's stick (through the gap) - which for some reason he really sucks at and this never seems to work

It just baffles me that a player with so much speed and such a great shot is so bad at beating defensemen and so easily matched up against in one-on-one situations.... He has great hands when it comes to receiving passes and releasing his shot, and great hands around the net jumping on rebounds, but when it comes to stick-handling he apparently has Jed Ortmeyer hands for some reason. I'm not sure I'll ever fully understand.

He has sucked even when we win. He's had one good game and a couple mediocre games all year. He has been soft and tentative, yes, but the most alarming part is the lack of using his speed.

This has me perplexed as well.

Burn 'em wide, no? Protect the puck with your leg and drive! I know that's more of a power move, but even that aside.... Use the speed

pretty much OT, but I converted my 11 year old nephew into supporting the Rangers and he's gotten quite into the whole ice-hockey thing.

Here's the poem he emailed from school today which seems relevant to some on HF:

Marion I love ya,
Your wrist shot makes me happy.
But lately you’ve been sucking,
and playing really crappy.
Please use you skills: your pace,
your shot, your flair.
Before more Ranger fan leap off bridges in despair
