Confirmed with Link: Marian Gaborik to Columbus for Brassard, J. Moore and Dorsett

I'm just relieved at not having to watch Gaborik do nothing, absolutely nothing while the team's season slowly died, minute by minute, period by period, game by game. I don't care if he puts up 60 for Columbus next year, when we needed him to do something, anything at all to save this season he was invisible. And as far effort goes, guys like Nash, Stepan, Callahan sure as hell looked like they were a lot more desperate than Gaborik. I don't dislike Gaborik but it was clear to me that he was not going to be able to help us and man that was frustrating to watch.

And when Gaborik bounces back and scores 40 goals in our divison next year we might see it differently.

Not really opposed to the trade, needed to shake up the roster and I like the pieces they got back, but we won't know if this trade was a positive anytime soon.

I could care less what he does next year. He can score 50, he wasn't going to be a New York Rangers player beyond the draft this summer anyway.

Alot of you guys need to realize that his salary space was going to be needed to ensure that we keep our RFA's AS WELL as add the lost depth in the Nash trade.

Keeping Gaborik beyond this season was never the plan.

As for knowing if this trade helps or huts any time soon? We will know if we win 8 of our remaining 12 games. That is something we have not been able to do WITH gaborik in the line up.

We will know if our offence at ES and on the PP starts to produce in key spots where it wasn't getting the job done while Gabby was here.

I look at this Rangers team today and feel that they are a tougher team to play against than the were before the deadline. They are deeper at forward and on D and grittier with just Clowe. Dorsett brings that element to another level.

If Gaborik was our only go to guy up front, I would have serious reservations, but he was a square peg in a round hole this season and it wasn't getting or going to get any better.

And while Nash may not be the better goal scorer, he is more impactful on a game to game basis. He creates and generates more offensive opportunites than Gabby does and as such the numbers have reflected that.

I wish Gaborik nothing but good things. He clearly wasn't happy here this year and we never heard a peep about it. He is as stand up a player as there is in this league. But the fact remains his shlef life here in NY was expiring, we just pulled the trigger sooner than I expected and the return was as good as you are going to get.

First of all, why do you assume people don't realize this just because they don't agree with the trade (which I already stated I actually do)?

Next I think it's shortsighted not to care what he does next year, since he's in our division

The team was starting to play better with Gabs in the lineup so I wouldn't say that. The Gaborik trade wasn't the only factor last night, the additions of Zuc and Clowe played a part too and if they get hot now it's too simple to credit it to the trade.

Agree with the rest of your post.

I still say, as I said a year ago, that Gaborik's shot hasn't been the same for at least a season. It has noticeably less zip on it. He is now scoring in new ways, going to the dirty areas, tip-ins, and so on, but unless he gets that velocity back to his shot he'll never be the completely dynamic scorer he was in the past. It's too bad, because if he had that AND was scoring the ugly goals, he'd probably be a 50+ scorer and Rocket Richard candidate.

I don't think so. He completely wired the puck a few times in his first game as a Blue Jacket. His abilities haven't hindered at all, but his on ice sh% is very low.

I dropped Gaborik earlier from my fantasy team and he was so bad that no one else in my league gave him a chance, even as a free agent. Now that he's on a team that will let him be himself I picked him back up and expect him to excel again. And so far so good. It's only one game but both teams look very good so far. I was honestly very happy for Marian to hear that he got the game winner in his first game. He is a world class player and will always have my respect.

OK. I think many of were thinking the same thing as we watched him this season. He looked great last night playing with Dubi. I hope he gets back to form. He's a nice guy, but he a was a total schlub this year and deserved the door....which he gladly walked thru I might add.

Gaborik was unhappy here, it's clear as day. I personally think he dragged the team down with him because of it.

Pretty sure that is 100% false. Just because he was slumping a bit through 30 games, doesn't automatically mean the guy didnt like playing on the team, didnt like NYC, or his teammates.

Waived his NTC to go to Columbus, didn't he? That says a lot. I'm sure other contenders would have been in for him around the draft.

That doesn't say anything really. The team pretty much said to him "We dont want you anymore, we are sorry and we want you traded" its kind of hard to say no to that. Plus he had another team saying "We really want you and are willing to trade a bunch of decent players for you", hard to say no to that as well. Plus a phone call from JD.

Not to mention going to a team with Prospal, Dubi, AA, etc.

They are basically the 2010-2011 Rangers

its easy to say we made the trade for cap.. but we got nice pieces that are here bc slats and crew looked at players who can be here and help long term.. imagine brass becomes a 2c and lives up to potential?

good bye richards!!

also by having more depth, it creates competition between players on the team and raises compete levels, which is what you want.. couldnt be happier with the trade and the return we got..

Im not so sure about this. Word on the street is that interest in Gaborik was very limited around the league.

It was a nice return, but when Sather made the decision to trade Gaborik, Im not so sure he expected Derick Brassard to be a centerpiece at that time.

did we get fleeced?

gaborik , ansiminov dubinsky, erixon middle first round pick. do you think really we did well in trades with jackets? im not too sure guys...

Do you ever post anything else? Serious question.

And yes, we did well, the Jackets did well. Sometimes, a trade is beneficial for both sides.

Clowe is like dubi but brings a little bit more to the table.. anytime you get a guy who can fight and play top 6 is huge

Brassard is similar to AA.. both have 2c potential.. still young at 25..

Erixon and Moore are a wash.. both have same Upside top 4.. Moore seems to be a better skater tho and more physical..

Bonus is Dorsett, who is prust like..

and MZA is better then last year.. which is a pick up without giving anything up..

its tough to see we traded for same type of players we org started at.. but at the end of the day Nash is the center piece.. to me hes a better fit for this team and brings way more then Gabs..

i like the trade.. we lost way to much depth and depended on 2 rookies that weren't ready for the roles.. time will tell but its hard to argue we didnt do well in this trade.. only thing you could argue that sucked is not getting a first rounder..

but if everyone lives to potential we're set for a long time..

Well, if you realistically look at it, both teams came out as a winner from these trades.

We got an elite forward in Nash with years left on his contract, a talented defenseman with proven skills at NHL Level in Moore, a center who, if he can develop into the player he is thought to be, will be our 2nd line center (Brassard) and a grit player in Dorsett.

We lost a sniper who was off his game in New York (Gaborik), a player who hasn't done anything noteworthy for us since getting his raise (Dubinsky) and a talented forward with a lot of upside in Anisimov. Ohw, and Erixon who wasn't ready at the moment.

The only player I regret being traded is Anisimov, but we got Brassard to fill his spot and I feel Brassard will be a more consistent center than Anisimov.

And guys sorry about flipping out over the trade before giving it a chance. Gaborik has been my favOrite since he's been here. Always tough seeing your favorite traded whether good for team or not. I loathed the day Leetch was traded as well. . I think it may work out for the Rangers. We are tougher to play against now and fun to watch again

The day Leetch was traded was a day I almost cried. Lately it's been a bit easier on me with only Anisimov being traded away of my fav. players.

You know, something I'm sure a few of us noticed, but I don't think anyone's commented on yet:

I love the fact that Dorcett, Brassard and Moore took the numbers 15, 16 and 17, respectively. If they did it on purpose (and it'd be a pretty big coincidence if it wasn't), that speaks to a tightness and a mindset of coming in together. LOVE it.
