That's how I feel about the whole team, sans the King.
And that has to do with depth.
Absolutely.
Theres an awfully fine line between depth and redundant.

Derick Brassard is now tied for 13th in Rangers scoring. I'm being for serious.
He tied Kreider and passed Asham last night.that is ****ing hilarious, what's clowe, second?
Noted. Didn't know it was derogatory, thought it was abbreviation.
Understandable, guess I think/hope there may be more to Brassard than was apparent during his time with Columbus. I agree, unless Richards really performs, and even then, I do not think it's wise, with the recapture, to hold onto him beyond the 2014 amnesty buyout period. Not sure I see the Rangers buying him out until then, if not, they get the rest of this season and next to see if Brassard can get the job done. If he surpasses Richards as Stepan appears to have done this year, maybe it all works out.Because Stepan as a #1 and Brassard as a #2 absolutely maxes out their potential. A lot is going to have to go right for that to happen.
And in a league that year after year after year proves that elite play down the middle is paramount, Im not too keen on a Stepan/Brassard bet.
This is not me advocating hanging on to Richards by any means after 2014, but the need for the type of player Brad Richards used to be will almost assuredly still be there.
Agreed. Yet here we are.
The new additions should help, really theres nowhere to go but up.
Montreal has 40 points from 2 Dmen on the PP. The Rangers have 10, all Dmen combined. Huge problem.

Moore tied Eminger and Halpern, passed Powe.
We filled three pretty gaping holes in our lineup with this deal. Brassard brings much needed offense to our third line. Moore adds a viable option for that #6 defender spot that we've been trying to fill with a patchwork of has-been's and borderline NHL talent. Dorsett brings the elements we lost with Prust, plus he's younger and has more offense in his game. All three players come with potential upside as well. Moore could pan out as a solid 2nd pairing defender. Brassard could be a solid #2 center. Dorsett could be that momentum shifter that the best teams around the league always seem to have.
If you look at this from the perspective of us trading a 40 goal scorer for role players, it's a tough pill to swallow. However, if you take a step back and realize that Gaborik was not playing well here this year and was showing no signs of bouncing back, then it starts to look much better. Especially if these guys can realize some of their potential.
Hopefully next fall will finally be a situation where we have too much depth, as opposed to scrambling at the deadline to fill the same holes we've had for the last several years.
And when Gaborik bounces back and scores 40 goals in our divison next year we might see it differently.
Not really opposed to the trade, needed to shake up the roster and I like the pieces they got back, but we won't know if this trade was a positive anytime soon.
He might. He might not. If he doesn't bounce back then his value continues to drop while the offense continues to struggle.
Gaborik has looked very tentative to me this year. I'm not sure if he's just lost confidence due to health issues, or he's physically just lost a step. If the latter is the case then we got three solid players who are young that can help this team at least a moderate amount for the next few years in return for a one dimensional 25 goal scorer.
This all started the day Scott Gomez was signed and nylander was shown the door
Think about it
No Gomez then no McD, Prust or Gaborik
Then Gaborik - after 2 40 goal sessions - turned into Brassard, Dorsett & Moore without costing any other assets at all
Thanx scotty Boy!
I am pretty sure Sather had all this figured out from the start
Now his signings of Redden and Drury on the other hand kind of went in a different direction. Let us hope we do not add Brad Richards to that category in a couple years
I don't like trading 1 for 3 but as stated previously, I do think Gaborik may be on the downside of his career. He is not (and in his entire time with the Rangers) was never the player he was in Minnesota. Maybe it was the pressure of New York. I don't think it was the coaching because Lemaire is Tortorella with a French accent. And I don't think it was as much of a personal blowup as some people do. To me, it's simple. There's a salary cap to deal with and he was a luxury that ultimately could not be afforded. And very possibly in the Rangers eyes, he was a declining asset and they decided to get as much value for him as they could find. Better to make the trade a year early than a year late.
Gaborik was great in 09-10. If he didn't get hurt,he would have scored over 50 that season. He was fooling around in practice with Henrik on breakaway drills. Henrik's skate cut Gaborik's leg. Then the Olympics came. Gaborik played not feeling 100% and he tweeked a groin. The groins weren't a big issue after the first season. He had hip surgery before leaving Minny. That surgery seemed to correct any major leg/groin issues. The Rangers weren't re-signing him next summer so they moved him.
So is Dorsett looking good to get back by yrs end/playoffs? That is pretty important if they get in. He could cause havoc which is what they need.
it goes without saying Staal being healthy at the end of the yr is very important as well.
I am fine with this trade in hindsight. Wish they got a better pick but I like the players and I understand Gaborik was struggling, the market likely wasnt big for him and they need the cap space for next yr
Gabby likely tears it up in CB but I doubt he would of figured it out with the Rangers this yr.
I can't beleive CLB is in the diviison next yr though, that is going to be freaking nuts. Automatic rival for yrs to come. Plus they always play WSH in the playoffs , that coupled with Pitts, Philly, Isles, Debbies
JD was on the podcast with Jeff Marek and Puck Daddy. JD said the Rangers were discussing something else with him when the Rangers brought up Gaborik. John said the Rangers weren't moving Gaborik just to move him. McDonagh made some comments to stop coaching Pat about Moore being a fit for the Rangers because of his skating ability. The Rangers system requires the D to skate. So what were they doing with Hamrlik? At least they didn't waste 2 picks on Murray who is almost as slow as Hamrlik.
