Red Sox/MLB 2025 Off-Season Hot Stove II - Alex Bregman in agreement with the Boston Red Sox

Oh I understand the mediocre effort and spending over the past couple of seasons. What I don't understand is the INCREASE in anger when they finally DO spend some money to address a need, instead of continuing to stand pat.

Like I said before, if you guys wanna continue to hate on ownership, knock yourselves out....

I literally said I'm apathetic and don't care anymore.

But even if I did say I'm angry what the f*** do I care what a fan of another team thinks?

Things that make me angry: people pretending like the Sox deserve praise for this off-season.

Things that make me apathetic: the Boston Red Sox.

might make this my phone background
Great pic.
I remember watching Evans in fielding practise in Toronto against the Jays, when they played at Exhibition Stadium.
I was standing behind home plate and watched him throw darts from different distances on fly balls and balls hit on the ground to RF.
What a strong and accurate arm he had.

Bregmans numbers are pretty crummy for 40 mil per year. But he should be OK lower in the lineup and compliment the kids.

I want Anthony Mayer and Campbell all in the lineup by Memorial Day.
He is not worth 40M, we all know that, I would say 25-28M is the max, however, its a one year deal opt out deal, who cares, we have the money.
He brings a great RH bat into the lineup we did not have last year and is a GG at 3B.
I think you will see him hit 35-40 doubles next year, .265 BA, 25 HR 85 RBI and stellar defense at 3B or 2b.
His signing buys another year of development for Campbell and or Grissom.
Provides insurance, so if Casas gets hurt, or Raffy he can fill in at 3B, Raffy moves to 1B.
We did not have these options last year.
Great move.

If they move him to 2nd base, are they really filling a need?

Could've just kept mookie. 10x the player and would've signed for less than $40MM.
Well, 2nd base has been a complete black hole for the Red Sox in recent years if I recall correctly. So I do think it fits a need. Now, if you tell me Kristian Campbell emerges and his best position is 2nd base...can you move Bregman to 3rd and DH Devers? I am hoping for something like that to unfold. If Devers doesn't want to be a full time DH you can still rotate that DH spot.

Not a Sox fan, but I really like what they've done over this past winter. They had some glaring issues with that roster and they went out and addressed them. With the exception of that Chapman signing, I like the moves they've made. I think 85.5 wins is a real solid bet right now.

They still have some work to do with that bullpen but they've got the ammo to add. Either now or at the deadline, if needed.
With the improvements we made with the starters and Bregman add that the Yanks and O's are weaker, I think 90 wins is totally realistic.
I am expecting a wild card spot.

Orioles lost their (by far) best pitcher and replaced him with 56-year old Charlie Morton.

Their second best pitcher last year was a 35 year old guy who had been in Korea and Japan for like 7 years since his previous MLB experience and I'm not sold will sustain what he did last year. Bradish is out at least half the year. Full year of Eflin should be good though and they've got a nice bullpen but TBQH their rotation is pretty mid. They're catchable.

I think Yankees have best pitching in baseball myself ( Dodgers maybe adding Sasaki) and alot better defensively shipping out Torres who led in errors.Soto sucked in RF but could hit .

I agree with you regarding their pitching. Adding Fried and stealing Williams from Milwaukee were 2 big moves. But I think Goldschmidt is washed up. Didn't like that move at all.

I think a lot is riding in Bellinger. He's nowhere near a replacement for losing Soto, but if he's decent for them, they could be pretty good.

They need a 3rd baseman.Their manager is kind of a bullshitter saying he hopes DJ LeMahieu runs with it.He was bragging up Hicks & Donaldson as well in the past the same way.I think Boston will give them real problems .The division battle should be between them with the Sox adding 2 good pitchers. Crochet being a lefty is a big add which gave NY troubles. The Orioles don't have the arms in my humble opinion.

So, I think there are some scenarios where things will "work itself out".

In my mind, there are more scenarios where the Sox are eventually forced to make some really uncomfortable decisions.
So are they better this season or without ?

This ownership group milked the Red Sox World Series tit for all it was worth and now that’s been accomplished they are a strictly money making business. This isn’t about winning or even fielding a competitive team anymore. everyone needs to lower their expectations to pre 2003 , that way no one will be disappointed with this shitbag ownership group. Looking forward to John Henry and Robert Kraft picking out urns .
