I think McTavish makes a lot of sense if Guerin won’t commit to Rossi longterm. Anaheim needs more offense and Minnesota gets a bigger C.

Trouble is, McTavish isn't playing very well. Certainly not at Rossi's level. it's not like McTavish is some monster, either. ANA would do the deal. Carlsson is going to be their #1c in the future, but having a guy like rossi to take the load off him for a while would help. trouble is that Duck's fans are saying that Zegras's best position is C, so i don't know what they would want to do about that.

Rossi is a quality player and seems very driven to get the most out of his ability. As such, he’s steadily improved year over year and is putting himself in a position of someone the team is able to count on.

I think it is fair to question where his ceiling actually is and is likely why the Wild brass has slow played him essentially since he turned pro. Yes they have absolutely treated him differently that most prospects of his status in the team’s history but it has also worked. He’s made huge strides, he’s playing good hockey, and is still part of this organization. Let’s not let that get in the way of finding a way to be upset about the front office though.

At the end of the day, he seems like someone that they will use as a piece to upgrade his actual role. Likely for a name to come available over the next year+ that isn’t the usual suspects or on the radar at this time. Something like a legitimate first line center all of sudden to be moved in the Eichel like situation. I don’t see the team ready to move him for the sake of making a change.

As an aside, it will never not be amusing to see the same Wild fans that cannot take two steps without bringing up Fiala. Someday they will grow up and take the poster down over their bed.

The job of the front office is to build a Cup winning team, not cater to the interest of players. I also don’t understand what exactly should have been done different with Rossi’s development?

The Wild have committed to plenty of players: Boldy, Faber, Eriksson Ek, etc etc. If we lock everyone in on 8 year deals, we will have the same issue as the previous regime with not much year over year change and a team that is totally complacent.

Fiala is not a top 3 player in franchise history and they got a better player back in return. Bitching about trading him away constantly does nothing. What did Fiala do here when it mattered most? Where are his playoff wins? Clearly he is NOT the solution.

Fiala isn’t even the third best player on this Wild roster so everything sort of falls apart from there.

It must be so difficult in your mind to come to grips with the fact that this terrible front office managed to identify a better player than him in a trade, at one of the most difficult to find positions in the sport, and a first round pick on top of it. All for this amazing player that has by benched by every coach he’s played for and has no interest in playing winning hockey.

Yes, I understand, I didn't count on success. But Kulich looked good in the center, unfortunately it is unlikely that the Wild will be interested in Cozens and he struggled this season and has a big contract. Peterka is quite an interesting and young player for the top 6.

I don't think the Wild would trade him in season, point blank, period.

I think they would consider trading him in the offseason, but any deal would be contingent on them having a replacement for him as a top six center.

In terms of Buffalo, I don't know how Guerin would value Cozens. He probably loves the size and may think he's closer to the 68 point player he was a couple years ago than the 34 point player he's pacing to this year. I don't think we can completely rule out an interest in Cozens, but yeah, the contract might make it difficult.

If the Wild end up signing Brock Nelson or someone like that in free agency this summer, Rossi may be available for a Peterka+Kulich type package.

Why this is important is because Rossi's name was linked to Cutter Gauthier similar to Brodin and Johansen. It is for a specific player as Minnesota is possibly looking to upgrade their center position.

I think the only reason why Minnesota would move Rossi at this point is if they have a clear upgrade (bigger, better skater (and Rossi isn't a bad skater at this point) than Rossi along with age. So a trade for Danault would make zero sense. Nor would trading for a winger.

It'd be like Lundell for Rossi + something.
