I agree with your logic from Buffalo's perspective.

But I also don't know why we're doing it. We need to add, not swap. What it comes down to is Guerin wants to move on from Rossi for some reason even though he doesn't have to. Does Buffalo want to move on from Peterka for some reason even though they don't have to? If so, that may be a match.

Because if they sign Nelson on the hope that he's still a 50+ point center for the next 3 years, then technically Peterka would be a pure "add" with Nelson and Rossi being the swap.

Anytime you can swap out a 60-point, cost-controlled 23 year old for a 56-point, expensive 34 year old who doesn't play defense and can't skate that well, you simply have to do it -- especially if one is from Minnesota!
