Marchessault answering about the Leafs tough start of season: "I think they have a good team, but I don't think they are as good as people think"

Does this mean they came in third?
First in the pursuit for respect though

Strangely enough leaf players/coaches don't talk about other teams yet these guys got to comment on them

If we're a average team get happy that you can play us and get the easy win. Why is Marshmellow talking about the leafs a team he hardly plays and has a <1% chance of playing in the playoffs?

Easily could have just said he doesn't play for Toronto or follow the team, ask someone from their team/staff. Next question

So you’re mad because he spoke his mind instead of following the usual brainless script of “yeah, they are a good team and they’ve had a rough start”?

It’s partly trash talk as well, I’m sure he had no intentions of hurting your feelings.

Wait... why even they ask Marchessault this question?

- Marchessault came from Quebec (Ontario's neighbours and rivals)
- Undrafted, developed in Tampa, burst out in Sunrise and became superstar in Vegas

0 connections what so ever between this two (unless you're count they are related to Canada but a weak connection)... What is the interviewer goals here? just to hope he shits on the Leafs?

A person with almost no connection to subject matter and hope he shits on them doesn't give clicks much.... basically.

Trying to use a sound bite from tva sports to troll people is so sad. There so bad, people think that lea hextall is bad, wow they make up there own words and cant even put a full sentence together.

He was asked about the Leafs because the rest of the league are busy bodies and any shot at Toronto is guaranteed to generate this kind of dialogue. That's completely fine, but I wouldn't characterize everyone else's fascination with Toronto as a "Toronto problem." It's not Toronto's problem that Vegas and Montreal don't generate enough topics of conversation in an interview.

The Leafs isn't that much of a topic around here.
A bit, because you guys are one of our Nemesis, but beside that, it's pretty much Habs 100%

Leafs lost to cup finalists in 2013, 2019, 2021 and 2022 so there’s a bit more of a wrinkle there, but it’s not Toronto “problem” that other markets, media personnel and players feel the need to weigh in.
Spin it any way you'd like, use whatever numbing justifications that make you feel better about it, but the fact is they can't get out of the first round. Nobody is condemning them for not winning a cup, everyone is condemning them for not winning a single round of playoff hockey.

And the notion that only Leafs players, fans and local media are allowed to talk about the Leafs is... absurd.

Yeah, but the point is they had to play the team that won the conference 4 times in the first round. They could have played that team in the third round also. Someone has to play the Cup winners in the first round, right?

The new divisional format hurts the Leafs because the Atlantic goes to the Finals almost every year. There was 5 Atlantic teams in the Finals in the last 4 years.. and the Leafs played 2 of them in the last 2 seasons.

A career NHLer with nearly 500 NHL contests under his belt knows a soft, weak, fragile and heartless team when he sees one.

Nothing at all surprising here.

Well, it’s true though. They would have made it past the first round if they were as good as some posters here believe.

They will never make it past the first round.

Why is a guy on Vegas talking about the Leafs when the Leafs haven't even played their Saturday game vs Boston yet?

Are Vegas off until the next game? (looks up the schedule)

We also play the 'Canes tomorrow.

Vegas lit up the Habs, was it a Montreal reporter that asked him this? After their game on Saturday I would hope at the very least?

Ok but it doesn’t change the fact that the leafs are still not As good as they think

So you think the Leafs (and their fans) think they're "good"?

It's so f***ed how many posters on this site "think" about the Leafs more than actual Leafs fans.

Like, Leafs fans are somehow unaware that they haven't accomplished shit in over 50 years.

We are aware..........very well up to date on that.

Leaf fans always talk about how great they are ! It’s important leaf fans are reminded of their past…especially last 5 years where they have been the butt end joke of the league
