he was underpaid like crazy for his whole career. wants to cash in in a couple of years and they can't afford him. smart move, if true.
My brother in Christ, he is on a contract he signed after his second year in the league and is only 26 this month. He was a 2nd round pick and his deal expires after this
year. Where is the “wildly underpaid,” and what “whole career?” He just got started!

Marchenko is a 2 sport athlete as he may get traded to the Utah Jazz

Less than a month later, rumors surfaced Saturday night that Marchenko would indeed be traded, according to a source close to the player. Since the Montreal Canadiens—and the Utah Jazz—were reportedly the two teams still in contention to acquire his services, it only took a few minutes for social media to erupt and for fans to try and uncover the details of a possible trade.

Montreal already offered Zhar , plus 2 1 sts and one of Pickford / Fowler for Knies which still got turned down ( holding out for Hage ) . And FYI he’s a winger . So it’s not an outlandish ask at all . Especially if it comes w an extension . The other pieces listed are mostly meh/ alright . Not a realistic basis for a deal without Hage / Zhar imo .
There is no proof Habs offered that.

Everyone knows it'll hurt; there's just folks desperately trying to make sure the only team hurting is Columbus, as per usual with any high-impact trade rumor.
Depends on how many teams Marchenko will extend with. If he limits it then either he isn't moved or it's a reasonable deal. If not some idiot GM might sell the farm.

Casey had injuries last year and showed a lot of promise when he got time in the NHL. Mercer is 24, has not missed a game (played all 82x5) is a 20 goal scorer, and had the second best year of his career last year. So no he's not a depreciating asset.
He absolutely is . Very vanilla player and might not actually be a centre . It’s just a really bad / unrealistic basis for a deal . For a guy like Marchenko it needs to hurt . These are just disposable / meh assets .

There are plenty of reports indicating that a deal was close ( with highlighted pieces within the framework) but ultimately Toronto needed Hage included which is when teams walked away . Your own GM expressed his frustration at this “ fictional deal “ not getting done , so seems like you are in denial ville

Do we even know why Marchenko is not willing to re-sign/extend in Columbus? Has he mentioned any preferred destinations?

Curious why a lot of folks think that Montreal is the prime candidate for a trade?

Marchenko: 26 years, so young, just starting his career
Laine: 28 years, so old, his career is almost over

Where is the objectivity????????

Voronkov and Marchenko
for
Iginla, Yamamoto, Lamoureux, and McBain
Columbus says no.

They fully plan on Voronkov improving his conditioning and being a top 6 winger, so if you're basing his trade value on how he did last season, you'll need to overpay to get him. Offering "fair value" equals Columbus just says no.
