The inability to think about anything besides maximizing value on paper is why HFBoards is the way it is. You and other posters think that the NHL is run like a videogame.

Market pressure and ownership desires are a significant part of why teams act the way they do. Management has made multiple statements recently that the streak of missing the playoffs weighs heavily on them and they will not willingly launch a rebuild until after that streak is broken.

It's the same for the Red Wings who - you will note - have not traded Larkin for a package yet.
The last season ticket open house was really empty compared to the summer Johnny signed. Absolutely Waddell is getting orders to have a competitive team for next season. STH are already getting ansy and losing a lot of renewals this summer alone

What’s the reasoning behind wanting to trade your best forward? It’s not as if CLB don’t have the cap room
If they're not to extend him, the Jackets have 11 months to move him. Otherwise, they risk a one-year offer sheet (with no possibility to trade him).

The ability to add an 8th year to his contract might add some value right now, but I don't see why Columbus wouldn't just wait until next TDL or next summer to trade him.

Hage will never be traded while the Habs have no other options for 2C. If they were targeting a C, sure. But nobody is trading high end C prospects for wingers. What's more likely is a package centred on Zharovsky and Guhle
Guhle is their only top 4 physical dman… I think they’d offer Reinbacher before him

I disagree only because with Hutson and Matheson there, Guhle is relegated to a 3rd pair even if he should be in the top 4. Reinbacher on the other hand is the natural partner for Hutson going forward.

Finally, if an expansion happens in the near future, Matheson is protected by his NMC (and you're obviously protecting Hutson and Dobson) which leaves Guhle exposed. At least you can get something for him now even if it sucks to lose him

Columbus is under no pressure to move him, if they don't get any offers they like, they'll wait until the TDL at which point they can let every team in contention start a bidding war (if they themselves aren't already in the thick of it)

Columbus making some noise in the playoffs might change Marchenkos mind, so there's no reason to trade him now.

Yes because we all know top contenders have plenty of young assets CBL would love to get their hands on.

yea theres wanting to trade for a good player and then theres habs fans
Every fanbase is the same. Your focus on the Habs is an unhealthy obsession.

Wanting to package scraps to get a good player isn't any worse than a fan who wants another team to break their core that's proven to be working well together to acquire a malcontent question mark who requires an extension and is pushing his way out of his team.

Gotta love hockey fans, mtl and Toronto gets thrown in every possible trade and made up trades.

Damn those habs fans thinking they get everyone.

I am sorry that podcasters and supposed hockey insiders don’t say your team names more often.

I am guessing you can get a better offer at the draft or even just after July 1 before most big names sign

This whole thread is talking about Marchenko....at least half of the league would be inquiring about him if he was made available at the TDL and in the off-season next year if it comes to that.

Just depends on the market at those times, if Columbus is out of the playoffs, the TDL could be lucrative, if they are still in the running I don't think there's any chance he's made available.

Next offseason? Sure. At the TDL? You'll only get real offers from contenders and they usually don't have the type of assets you'd be looking for.

My personal opinion, though, is Marchenko's value is currently much higher than what it would be at the TDL (fewer potential suitors with assets to fill your needs) or next offseason (diminished value due to only being a year away from UFA and getting to choose his destination - See Dobson)

I’m Swedish, can someone translate this? Internet seems confused.
??? Pretty easy. Even as a Swede, grade 4 level should be easy to understand. But I'll translate it for you again.

THERE WHY

Duh.

No the Wings haven’t traded Larkin yet because there’s one team that wants him that he wants to go to and the package is shit. If the value was there he’d be gone.

If by "the value" you mean "a player who is a top-6 C this season" then yes. If you mean "a package that results in Andrew Copp being their top line center" then no of course they won't do that.

He had 3-4 teams on his list. None of them have the cap room or likely assets Detroit would be interested in. Now if he is going to be a pain in the ass and disruption like B Tkachuk they may want to take a decent package just to get rid of him. Of course if they bow to pressure from hm they are setting a precedent for future malcontents.

I guess you want to recoup assets if he's not going to resign. Similar to Dobson and opposite to Marner.
They tried to trade him but he blocked it (for Rants). Eventually they got Roy who they flipped for a 1st. Much better than most pending UFAs return just prior to free agency opening (typically a mid ish pic for rights).

None of this is happening lmao

If Marchenko and Werenski want out, you're kind of forced to rebuild tho. Retooling most likely makes you worse short, medium and long term.

The guys from the last rebuild are still emerging. Guys like Fantilli and Mateychuk are just wrapping up their ELCs. You want to see what you have there, you don't start rebuilding any sooner than you have to. So that means give it another year and re-evaluate at that point.

I'm in the minority with Jackets fans but I'm ready to ship him somewhere else too. Make an offer we cant refuse lol
Would absolutely love the guy but I have a hard time seeing a trade with MTL unless Marchenko pulls a Dobson and only decides he wants the Habs.

Guhle is a piece I've seen thrown into these mock-up trades but I don't think CBJ has any desire for another LD. Maybe they'd like one of Hage/Zharovsky and while that would be fair, I can't see Habs trading either of them for a winger. Habs seem to really like both of them

So what else can MTL even offer? Reinbacher, 1st round picks, and then for roster players guys like Kappanen/Dach/Newhook/etc? Not great for CBJ lol
