08 to 11 Staal was a legit 1st pairing D-man and one of the best shutdown guys in NHL. Don't see how anyone can deny that.

My favorite moment was when he scored a game tieing shorthanded goal against the Pens in Pittsburgh. We were getting bad calls against us all night (Hank threw his stick down the ice in frustration), down 2-1 late and on the PK. Dubinsky assisted Staalsy. Duby and Cally won it in OT. Also when he destroyed Matt Stajan mid ice.

I absolutely love that game, I don't know why it's stuck in my memory so much.

Miss Dubinsky and Cally and Staal for that matter.

Remember when he went coast to coast and wired one in to tie a game in Florida early in the 3rd period a few years ago?

Hes like 10% of that version right now.

I wonder what his advanced stats look like, they can't be good. On the eye test he's a liability both ways on more nights than when he's barely holding the fort.

Staal plays like a borderline 3rd pairing guy/ 7th defenseman and is paid like a first pairing guy. I don't know if it's his problem with eye sight, if his confidence is shot, if his body is fatigued, when he has simply regressed this badly. It does have been in a downward trend for years, but many of the reasons are aligned with that observation.

NYR have played the most games out of any NHL teams in the last four years and I suspect that is starting to have a negative effect on many players.

They're laughably tanking currently.

At that time Pens were really good and we struggled against them alot. That game had so many emotions. I was flipping off the tv (lmao yeah i know) when Pens went up 2-1, fist pumped when Staal tied it and let out a loud scream of '**** yeah' with hands raised high when Dubi and Cally won it. I've never been that worked up about a game since.

Closest I've felt since was when MSL's mother died and we completed the comeback against Pittsburgh two years ago.

Great Sam call, too. Two on one! Two on none!!!! SCOOOOOOORE!

Miss that Marc. Miss that Cally, too.

Staal sits...team gives up 5 goals vs one of the worst offensive teams.

Yup. Staal is the problem.

Well, our callups did well, but we have D. Boyle who gave the puck away or too old to react in the end of 3rd
We lost battles all over the ice and we barely had any puck possession the last 40 min. and we didn`t create much when we had the puck.

God the whole "well Staal wasn't in and the team got destroyed so he's not the problem" line of thinking is the worst. He's a problem. Just turns out that collectively the team played like garbage the night he was out. I'm sure AV will say that we need Staal's presence back in the lineup though

You're surely joking right? I think you forgot to add the /s at the end of your post

Nah.

Most people, aside from a handleful posters, can see he has been pretty good as of late.

Others (like yourself?) just hate on him no matter what. The night he shut down philly's top line and played about 26 minutes with no PP time, people still said he was bad

Yup. Staal is the problem.

Goal 5 was an empty better

Goal 4 was completely on Boyle for the most ill-timed pinch ever

Goal 3 directly resulted from 2 penalties that weren't called.

On top of that, Skjei looked 10 times better than Staal looked. If youre going to attribute it the goals against and directly correlate it to Staal not playing then you are wearing blinders.

Columbus fan here in a quest for enlightenment. What is the situation with Staal? Do the Rangers want to move him and how badly? Does your front office regard him as an asset or an issue?

It certainly SEEMS like the FO regards him as an asset. The head coach definitely does since he regularly gets more ice time than Yandle. Rangers fans for the most part ABSOLUTELY want to move him. Rangers FO? Not sure - my guess is probably not but I could easily be wrong about that.

I think both an asset and issue. This organization porbably loves him, but also can't be blind enough to not see his play as been ass

Organization adores him.

Very high on the **** list of most NYR fans.

The org. adores them both M. Staal and Girardi. The only players who are not on the trade book at the moment is Ryan Mc, Brassard, Miller & Lundquist. :)

Columbus fan - I'd be glad to reunite Staal with JD, Torts and Dubi

Staal, Lindberg, Halverson, and a young F, maybe Nejezchleb
for Murray, Rychel, Paliotta and Kolesar
