Who is? I'm saying he's not going to be a very good player again. I'm not sure what you think I'm saying.

i just quoted you because i was too lazy to scroll down the extra 2 inches to hit reply...it wasnt directed at you. it was just a statement. and more of a WHY THE HELL ARE YOU PLAYING HIM SO DAMN MUCH AV!! kinda comment.

Exactly. The guy is just posting nonsense at this point.

I really doubt that.

Yeah, this is simply untrue. First and foremost, he looked great under Renney. He continued to look great under Torts. He then was injured and saw his play drop off due to a major injury.

But whatever. Keep making things up.

If you believe he was a system player, then I don't think you watched the guy play. It's that simple. You're so incredibly wrong in that regard that it strikes me as someone who has not seen the player you are "analyzing" play.

You doubt I'm a season ticket holder because I don't think staal was ever any good? Your a joke. Staal in my opinion was a above average defensemen for 1 season and finished 16th in the Norris trophy, which I still think is nonsense, but you know nothing about me. I have talked to current NHL players who share the same thoughts that I do on staal. You don't have to believe me and I don't really care but I'll continue to sit in my club seats while you whine that staal was so good.

Staal was a beast of a shutdown defenseman for some time prior to his injury. You can ask Ovechkin to confirm this.

club seats - wow
i believed i had the best seats in the house, in the 'yellows' on blue line behind visitor's p-box ~'77-'12,
but the renovation priced me out.
real happy now in lower 200's at center ice

anyway, i think saying Staal had only 1 good year is an exaggeration, but i respect everyone's opinion

i think he was a bulwark of our D, and shoulda got the C they gave McD, but was a pending UFA

anyway getting defensive here, or letting yourself be provoked, is just silly
we're all a&&holes with stupid opinions (yeah all of us)

my stupid opinions include:
i think giving McD the C was the wrong move at that time, coming into his prime as a Norris candidate D-man, that was enough, why screw with it

i think Yandle has done little great with us (has looked better on O the last 15 games, but still MDZ risky in our zone) and some folks here (OL?) get nasty about my conclusion, oh well

anyway I still like Staal,
i thought he even played the 2 goals reasonably well last night.
agreed he is not scary good, like he's been in the past against star F's

but speaking of seats, my favorite game in my new seats - Caps playoff Richards game that Staal won in OT

Sorry about the seats comment. It irks me that just because I don't share his opinion that staal was so good he criticizes me that I'm not a season ticket holder or that I haven't watched the Rangers for more then 2 years. I've played hockey since I was 3 years old and been a ranger fan my whole life. I share most of your views especially on yandle.

Staal & wife are having a baby soon, maybe today.

Hopefully, Marc comes back with some New Dad Strength[sup]TM[/sup]

Did they have a boy or a girl? And when are they sending the kid for tryouts? You can never start skating too early. Perhaps after several generations, there will one day be an all Staal league... ;P

Congrats on the kid, and hopefully this rejuvenates hit play because we need him.

My hope is that one day, there will be enough young Staals to field and entire team. All those Staals get drafted by the Hurricanes. The Staal family buys the franchise, and fills the whole FO and staff to be members of the Staal family. Relatives and whatnot. The entire franchise is now entirely Staals.

Then, and only then, can they win the Cup again.

99% sure they announced it was a baby girl and her name was either Emily Jane or Emily Joan. Pretty cute using his brother's initials for his daughter's name.

someone on twitter suggested that Staal take at least a 6 month paternity leave. couldn't agree more.

The Rangers had an issue with their PK defense pairings last night.

With two left shot left defenseman and Yandle (one of them) being the Rangers absolute last option as a D on their penalty kill. Not sure he's even had a shift this year on the PK and FWIW Dave Tippett almost never used him on the PK in Phoenix either.

So problematic as defending in a right defense spot is for Dan Boyle--killing penalties on the left side is not a good thing. It meant more of the brunt dropping on McDonagh, Girardi and Klein. You really need two entirely dependable pairs and especially against an offense like Chicago's. For that reason alone we're better off having Staal playing.

I think when they shortened the bench....it started to unravel . McI needs to play a regular shift in those out of conference games to get experience....if he makes a few mistakes we have to live with it for now .....growing pains . Staal is here for the balance of this season and most likely the next and the next...and I think he will bounce back once we lose Boyle and McI gets his feet fully wet and comfortable . But then......what do I know....

6 months to 2 yrs is some pretty important bonding time for the baby - he should definitely take 2 years at the least.

It will take him at least 2 years to catch them. 3 years if they're on skates.

Watching that video reminds me time and time again of the scares I get when I watch him play. I am afraid he gets a cross-check or interference penalty almost every shift

08 to 11 Staal was a legit 1st pairing D-man and one of the best shutdown guys in NHL. Don't see how anyone can deny that.

My favorite moment was when he scored a game tieing shorthanded goal against the Pens in Pittsburgh. We were getting bad calls against us all night (Hank threw his stick down the ice in frustration), down 2-1 late and on the PK. Dubinsky assisted Staalsy. Duby and Cally won it in OT. Also when he destroyed Matt Stajan mid ice.
