Matthews with an exceptional defensive play to finish the period.. Really making strides... to go at the player behind the net with his stick down to defend against the reverse pass... warms my heart and makes me think he's going to take us somewhere.

Matthews defensive game makes him more valuable than McDavid until McJesus decides he wants to put in the work it takes to play a 200ft game.

Feels weird to say it but I believe it.

That play was insane. Beautiful.

He's just the guy who never makes the save when you need him to. Low leverage situations, low danger shots, ezpz. High danger, high-leverage, watch him crumple.

Good goalies make elite saves at times regardless of the chance. Fred just didn't have that ability with us, and especially cost us the last ~3 years he was with the team when we were legitimately good besides him.

Hey they finally forced Freddy to move across his crease and he came through with the classic Freddy flop.

Freds been challenging so far out there's so much room behind him they gotta make him pay for it more.

But overall we have not played well enough in this one. And the Canes are gonna get some game management in the 3rd.
