Yet Rielly maybe gets 5 seconds of PP time if he's lucky.

My one significant complaint about Babcock.

Meh

I'm convinced Babcock is doing all he can to bring Dions value up to move him.

I can get on board with that

No Don Cherry, the NHL would never agree to anything that would make the all-star game terrific.

Didn't he say he's doing it for a reason? To have Morgan focus on D etc

That's the only thing I don't understand. Why does playing on the PP have to hamper Morgan's focus on D? He's clearly an offence first defence man, why not just him PP time while also having him play the shutdown minutes too?

It could be a few things.

Show casing other players like Gardiner, while developing Reilly's Defense and giving him the time to rest to take on the heavier load through the rest of the game.

meh not really.

if you want to take it as facevalue - we know he can score and he can get easy points, so let him concentrate on the defense/well rounded.

if you want to take the political route - keep the point totals down to justify a lower cap hit AND push Dion as a PP guy (even though he sucks) and we can trade him.

You could always put Rielly out there instead of a 4th forward on one of the units and run with 4 forwards on the other.

I kinda understand saving him for 5 on 5, but still.

Because he's not ready to play 28 mins a game. Any pp time he gets will end up coming out of his pk/shutdown 5-on-5 ice time.

You also don't just walz out and play some PP. Putting him on a PP unit also means focus on the PP at practice instead of areas he needs to fix. It means he'll feel the pressure to be an offensive contributor.

They don't really limit his development. They focus it.
