Any other goaltender the leafs sign would be depth on the Marlies. Samsonov/Woll is absolutely going to be the tandem going into the year.

As a coach?
The article above states as a 3rd string waiver option.

Kinda like the Leafs situation with Simmonds last season where they repeatedly waved him but he didn’t suit up in the AHL, just lingered as a paper transaction in the press box as an extra player incase of injury.

Wait, i thought he announced that he was done and retiring? Did i just imagine that?

Anyway...even if he's not, isn't he pretty cooked at this point? Maybe okay as a sparingly used backup behind a workhorse like Vasilevskiy, but the Leafs don't have that. So i'm not sure what they'd be thinking there.

This report doesn't make sense, we're running a Samsonov - Woll tandem which is very economical while still having good goaltending

The last time Elliott played for Treliving, he delivered one of the worst playoff goaltending performances I’ve ever seen.
7 low danger goals against in 4 games. He was brutal, although the Flames definitely weren’t winning that one regardless.

The rest of the conference finalist goalies combined for 11 through all of their first two rounds.

It makes perfect sense. Leafs want a third string goalie who is experienced and who will likely clear waivers. What makes no sense are the critics who somehow think that a better goalie will clear waivers.

Treliving sure loves his retreads.

Elliott has only surpassed the .900 SV% mark once in the last four seasons.
