Maple Leafs grant Islanders permission to speak to Brendan Shanahan (upd: released by Leafs)

Neither team got anywhere close to the ultimate goal but at least Toronto had more theoretical shots at it by making the playoffs in the first place.

Isles at least made an ECF didn't they? Would still say that's a more successful season than any of the ones Shanny oversaw during his failed tenure here - even if it still fell short of the ultimate goal.

ECF Game 7 twice against the best team in the cap era. Nobody worth listening to would ever compare the Leafs to that.

The Islanders lost in the Conference Finals in 6 games and 7 games and came "nowhere close"

Both teams missed the playoffs twice in the respective tenures.

Against 6 playoff series wins in 7 years versus 2 in 11.

Toronto had more "theoretical shots" in the sense that Shananan was there 4 years longer I guess? Or because vibes?

To be fair the Shanaplan was more successful than Lou’s plan in NY.
Wasn’t Lou Lam the GM in TO when Mathew’s, Marner, and Nylander were drafted? They he got pushed out by Shamaplan for Dubass. Lou went to the Island and won 7 playoff rounds while the Leafs won two.
By all measures Lou was building a winner in TO, got pushed out and went and won on the Island.

Sham Man is pretty much gone though don’t you think?
I suppose, this thread exists, so he was not going to re-sign and/or the team was not going to offer him a contract. Many people assumed this was going to be the case when Keith Pelley was hired.

Allowing Shamaplan to talk to other clubs before June 30 is the org. Doing him a solid. He will be announced as the new Ptesident of hockey for the Islanders within a few days after the Leafs announce both him and then decided to part ways.

Sure, it beats the mess of firing him out right.
