Honestly the lesson from this game is that the crappy first periods have to stop. This has become a trend and it finally bit the Devils in the ass.
I mean, I think the lesson from this game is mostly that you can't win every hockey game. But yes, the actionable item after tonight is stop with the lame first periods.

Not showing replays is insanely frustrating. We all pay good money to go to games and we get to watch the idiotic SpongeBob/Patrick clip on the board instead of the replays that everyone who stayed home is seeing. It’s ridiculous.

But yeah I’ve been to basically every playoff run since the 90s and there was a point in the 3rd period after Hamilton scored that may be the loudest I can ever remember the Rock. It was absolutely bonkers.

I agree about the lack of replays, I absolutely hate it. There's no reason not to show what they are looking at. If they think by not showing it right away that it prevents the fans from getting too rowdy than we showed that doesn't matter anyway lol

I know it's been awhile but the 2012 run had way louder moments. Game 6 vs the Rangers was pure pandemonium when that ot goal was scored. Gonna be awhile before that ever gets topped. I thought the Noesen 3rd period goal vs Tampa in 2018 game 3 was louder too.

Again, it's been awhile so definitely feels like it's the loudest it's been in ages lol

TBH I'm glad I was in the upper tier on the opposite side of the rink where most of the beers came down so I was more bemused than anything but yeah all things being equal not something you want to see, but hey if the NHL keeps insisting on putting Chris Rooney on our games well f*** them too.

It was just the perfect storm - holiday, sellout crowd, big game and controversy up the wazoo.

my favourite part was the curved glass replacement beside the bench...gave me a chance to check on how my taquitos were doing and referesh the beverage

I'm starting to wonder if it's on purpose. Like maybe the pace they play isn't sustainable for 3 periods and they'd rather save the energy for the end of the game rather than using it early.

Was at the game, the energy in the building was the most insane I've ever experienced. If we could have tied the game by yelling we would have.

On the beer throwing, honestly it was very easy to understand. There is almost no video replay of reviews, they show it once halfway through the review and by the time you notice it's being shown it's over. Then they don't show it again. If you don't give the fans proof of the calls all you have is the emotion of having the goal taken away, THREE times. If there's a failure here, it's not showing more replays and explaining the calls.

I have to watch the replays now to form a better opinion of whether the refs got them wrong or not. Cause I sure didn't get that opportunity at the Rock.
Won't be the last night that the Rock is rocking this year. Gonna be a fun season and it's just begun. I'm so pleased with how the fans have come back to this team. I know a few fans who went tonight thst had lost their passion over the year and all but, stopped comong out to games. They had that fire in their belly again! This energy is contagious and will carry throughout this season.

Guys I know it doesn’t matter, and it’s such a reach to dig back this far, but I feel like I remember our third disallowed goal counting against us when someone from Arizona scored?

This was YEARS ago, and maybe I’m remembering it completely wrong, but I swore a Yote kicked the puck, and it went off of Salvador and in, and they counted it as a good goal.

Am I insane or did this happen? I’m looking for it, not that it matters.

Okay maybe this is what I’m thinking of. I swear there was a game against Arizona where they kicked the puck and it bounced off a Devil and in, but maybe it was their stick.

It was the October 27, 2011 5-3 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, who played at the Jobing.com Arena apparently . (Edit: Nope, Hockey Reference amusingly calls their Arena that every year even though that only lasted from 2006-14. This is more than I ever wanted to know about this, but I’m surprised Jobing.com lasted that long.)

That you can’t win every game is simply a fact not a lesson. But the coachable moment is that Ruff has to get them playing better at from the drop of the puck. Can’t just expect to find your legs. NHL teams will make you pay and the Leafs did just that in the first.

Man. That was the crasiest game fan arena ive been in... In like forever. Fans really got riled up like i havent seen in prudential.

I know alot will be said about the reaction.. But it was priceless from upperdeck.

It was pandamonium for awhile.
Yeah it translated to the TV broadcast or stream in my case. Was at games in October with 11,000 in the barn. Hahaha no more bargin tickets but, I'm happy about it. Means we don't suck anymore!

Man I'm still frustrated lol, but for a regular season loss in November so that's exciting. Was the 3rd overturned goal called a goal on the ice? I can't remember. But if so... Haula's stick was awfully close to the Leafs' players stick blade. I don't think it touched the blade but it would have to be inconclusive that it didn't if it was a goal on the ice. And I don't care if it grazed his stick, in a league where your skate blade can be 1mm offside for something to be called back that's the type of ticky tacky shit they call.

And the first goal should've counted outright.

Like it or not these our are fans and I really dont want to hear any moral virtual signaling when our owners would be perfectly happy if every one of us were degenerate gamblers.
I mean, throwing a heavy beer where it might hit another fan, a member of arena staff, a coach, or a player is not okay. It's just not. We can say that it's not.

I agree it’s not, make the cages more reinforced. We’re not moving away from that by making every face off a moneymaking decision for these same fans.

Great run from the team.

It did take a night where it seemed like fate itself was against the Devils and even fate couldn’t stop the Devils from making it a squeaker at the end.

Not the Devils best night but this is why win streaks are so hard. It’s kind of impressive they only lost by 1 considering this was a B- game from the team.
