Anyone kinda miss the old days where you used to have interleague play only for a couple of weeks in June and that was it? I like the more balanced schedule, don’t get me wrong, but I kinda miss that.

With the rules normalized across both leagues interleague play is no longer all that different it's not a big deal anymore.

When I saw this live and didn’t see KK at second I thought he held up and got thrown out at second. Was pleasantly surprised to see him at third! Gurriel or Teo gets thrown out at second likely. That helped them win the ball game.

KK doing those high IQ things that made me hate playing against him is pretty fun.

As a casual fan, what can I expect from the Jays this year?

Expect them to win the AL East division and advance to the World Series. They have considerably improved in all areas, especially on the defensive side of the game (much better outfield/infield)

The top three of our pitching staff (gausman, manoah, bassitt) will be very good this season and berrios/kikuchi won’t be as bad as last year. They will bounce back in 2023.

Agreed. Every time we played the rays, He was a frustrating pain in the ass.

I looked at my buddy and said how the hell did he get to third on that play. Was huge for the win

that game was bananas but what a start to the season. Hope it's foreshadowing and we're going to be for a ride this year,

Gotta love Romano shutting them down after the bullpen was struggling.
The team is looking solid and serious. I don't think i'll miss the goofy dugout antics too much.

Agreed, and I like that the blue jays are comfortable playing small ball to start the year. Make solid contact and great hits to drive in runs. They look poised to make a great run

Looking at Fangraphs defensive stats, nearly every catcher is 0.1, I believe that every 1B and DH is -0.1.

The outlier is Contreras who got a 1.1 in 7 innings!

I believe catchers are still at +12.5 runs for positional adjustment so a league average outing for them essentially produces 0.07716 defensive war. 1B’s are -12.5, DH’s are -17.5. In Contreras’ case he caught a runner stealing which netted him an extra run.

Yeah, and I think Fangraphs's advanced defensive stats only update now and then (weekly or something) rather than in real time like offensive and pitching stats, so it's only showing positional adjustment plus... uh, I guess "non-advanced" stats (CS for catchers).

What's weird, though, is that Baltimore stole four bases off McGuire yesterday, and he's still sitting at the same 0.1 as the rest of the catchers. If they've added catcher arm value for CS, you would think they would also remove the negatives.

Yeah tbh I'm still not completely sure how Contreras got the additional 1.0 value. The only thing I could think of was that Contreras is the only listed catcher to catch someone stealing, but like you said there have been cases (McGuire) where players should have netted negative value then. Not to mention there are other players with defensive runs saved (e.g., Lindor at +2). Might just be a wonky early season calculation and it'll correct itself once UZR starts updating.

Edit: Nvm, I also see Hedges has caught someone stealing too and he didn't receive that 1.0 value. Maybe it's because Contreras did it in less innings since he's the only player with a 1 rSB. I honestly am unsure.
