The problem with calling this a “re-tool” is there was never a “tool”. Usually a re-tooling team was very good, falls back to a level that is at or above where the Canucks currently are, then needs to move out a couple bad players and replace them with good players to get back where they were.

This team has been shit for almost a decade. They need to clear out a bunch of crap and also massively upgrade the roster in other areas. The question is whether they can do both things with no cap space and one of the worst prospect groups in the league.

Uh, I believe you're forgetting the historic, deep run to the second round in 2020.

This semantic argument applies to the term "re- build" too.

I actually don't think this is true. There are plenty of people that think a rebuild means trading Pettersson and Hughes for draft picks and hoping for lottery wins for the next 5 years.
I think that would clearly be a way to rebuild, though not the only or best way. At a minimum most would agree that a rebuild involves trading away core players with an eye to pushing out the competitive window.

It essentially is...a rebuild is moving out your current group of core playersand replacing it with a new one.

Absolutely can not retain on Boeser asset be damned let him hit waivers and let Minnesota pick him up for free

Why are the Canucks so bad at evaluating their own players? Us fans could clearly see D guisspe and Wolanin were good NHL players in training camp. So frustrating watching frickin Highmore Lazar Stillman etc struggle for so long. Wtf. Hell they seem better than Boeser and Myers and OEL ffs.

I’m enjoying Pettersson dunking on the “is he really that good relative to the rest of the league?” shit-takes. “Is Pettersson good enough to build around?” Meanwhile, Pettersson going to finish top 5 in scoring this year while being an all situations monster.

I really don't get why they had to rush into the Hronek deal. They aren't competing this year, and draft picks are worth less at the deadline and more near the draft. If you are going to be trading picks for players, create a bidding war and get more value for your assets, especially in a strong draft like this year. Picking up a defenseman at the deadline just seems to be unduly impatient to me.

I think it just comes down to they liked the player - and if yzerman was willing to move him it wouldnt take long before other teams inquired due to the position

If you can get what you want and what you think you need you get it. Funny cause the opposite and hronek either moves elsewhere or is re signed then they would be portrayed as sleeping at the wheel (like the marino situation that gets brought up)

The combination of not moving a good player for less than what you want and going and getting a player you want is positive to me.
