Surprising actually...I would have thought JR might have had more balls to tell this clown to back the f*** off.
This appears to be what's happening right now and why this coaching mess went so public.

Well yes but at the same time Tampa needed to dump around 3M+ off their roster. What PoM seems to be saying, and he's correct, is that the simple fact that a trade is necessary to or fulfills the function of clearing cap doesn't mean the player won't return value. Miller was never a cap dump, he was always going to return value.

It’s hard to speculate what they would’ve done to clear space and yes I think Miller would’ve returned something. The issue was always, why the hell would anyone pay that much to acquire Miller when everyone knew Tampa needed to clear space.
I've found most of the mainstream media's work these last week or so regarding the Canucks annoying and typical "piling-on".. but yeah, these 90 seconds are pretty accurate.
I guess that could be the case...it just seems like a very dumb, long and drawn out method of "managing up"...when all it should take is a very direct conversation with Aquilini. This appears to be what's happening right now and why this coaching mess went so public.

Perhaps...I just would have thought that JR would have the gravitas and the stones to just tell Aquilini directly "Do you want a PoHO or do you want a puppet? You came to me for a reason, either trust in my plan or you should probably hire someone else." JR is a 73 year old dude, I know I wouldn't want to be wasting time in a power struggle with a giant man child and his plaything.I ... don't think it's this easy.
If it was, Mike Gillis would have sorted this out in 2012.

Sure, but it shouldn't have taken until now to get to this point...if Aquilini is the reason JR was denied the ability to make a coaching change (or if any other meddling was taking place) a conversation needs to happen at that point. And if it continues to happen, walk...make Aquilini look the fool.Again, I feel like this is basically exactly what's happening right now.
I think that is unlikely as I believe Mats Sundin was one of Gillis former clients.I'm starting to wonder if that Sundin contract was more Aquilini than Gillis...looking back, I think it was hugely positive for the team to have him, but imagine if he took that 2 year 20 million offer from the Canucks. They probably re-sign the Sedins, but wouldn't have space for Ehrhoff and certainly not Samuelsson.
He's going to need a seeing eye dog wherever he goes.rutherford is desperate to stay in hockey. if he walks from vancouver it's probably over for him. he doesn't have nearly the agency fans think he has
Both can be true, and I'm starting to think Aquilini hired Gillis specifically to bring Sundin in.I think that is unlikely as I believe Mats Sundin was one of Gillis former clients.
He has as much "agency" as he wants...you are probably correct though, this is likely his last seat at the table and that could create some hesitancy to end the relationship...However, I don't know about you but, if I were a 73 year old, 3 time Stanley Cup winner with over 40 years old NHL experience, there is no way I'd let a goofball owner try to meddle in my business...I'm sure JR wouldn't try to tell him how to sell blueberries, don't tell JR how to operate an NHL team (although we do, all day everyday...lol)rutherford is desperate to stay in hockey. if he walks from vancouver it's probably over for him. he doesn't have nearly the agency fans think he has
I don't really get this either, but there is a simple explanation that may be at least partly true: the thrill of being one of the 32 people on the planet running an NHL team doesn't wear off. Maybe you'll always convince yourself you can work within whatever bounds are set by circumstances. And being 73 works the other way sometimes -- at that age you're probably not going to have too many unexpected experiences, or learn a new language, meet new people, etc. An NHL GM writes a small footnote to history, and JR's ambition and self-regard might be what's making him choose that instead of golfing and eating nice dinners for another 5 or 10 years.Perhaps...I just would have thought that JR would have the gravitas and the stones to just tell Aquilini directly "Do you want a PoHO or do you want a puppet? I mean, I do get that its probably a huge ego boost and an intoxicating feeling having that kind of control over something that important to you...i get it (I don't, but I do...lol), but at some point you have to figure out that, if you're working for someone who won't give up the control you crave so badly yourself, you either have to win a power struggle and force him to relent and take a step back, or walk away yourself.I don't really get this either, but there is a simple explanation that may be at least partly true: the thrill of being one of the 32 people on the planet running an NHL team doesn't wear off. It’s really not too hard to understand old successful people… they tend to be incredibly stubborn and also don’t give a f*** because they know their time is short. He has as much "agency" as he wants...you are probably correct though, this is likely his last seat at the table and that could create some hesitancy to end the relationship...However, I don't know about you but, if I were a 73 year old, 3 time Stanley Cup winner with over 40 years old NHL experience, there is no way I'd let a goofball owner try to meddle in my business...I'm sure JR wouldn't try to tell him how to sell blueberries, don't tell JR how to operate an NHL team (although we do, all day everyday...lol)
He tried - do you remember that big 1040 interview he did when he basically said 'we're going to rebuild and do things the right way' and got fired.
Perhaps FA is much more of an egotistical maniac than even JR (or us fans) realized. For all we know there is no introspection at all, and like other egotistical billionaires, he only knows how to point the finger at others.
