You think the roster won't look drastically different in 5 years?
Sure it will. I'm not sure why that would cause one to assume they would magically be a substantially better team.

As it is, they have a bottom-tier prospect pool. A bad on-ice roster. No cap space. And a draft pick deficit.

They have no realistic avenues to overhaul the team by adding good, cost-efficient players and subtracting deadweight.

So now the arguments supporting Rutherford's (supposed) plan are, "a lot can happen" and "get lucky". Wow. Alright then.

Goalie injuries are weird and should be treated with a huge amount of caution. Plus, this is was expected to anyone paying attention.

Folks here not old enough to know knee injuries suck
Whenever I run, my knees sound like rice krispies going up stairs.

edit.

I should clarify, they don't sound like rice krispies all the time. But I run a lot and after a run, when I go up stairs it's not a nice sound, no pain though. i'm not even 40 either. But maybe years of skateboarding in my youth, dropping stairs etc probably took a toll.

Chris Gear was in his late-30's when he came onboard in the early 2010s. A relatively young guy, who, like you stated was probably just a pushover in a room when Benning, Weisbrod and Aquilini took full control by the mid-late 2010's. He was likely content on collecting a paycheck for basic data entry.
You should see if this theory is correct by @ing him lmao

Just a thought.

My frustration with the handling of the Mikheyev injury probably comes from my disagreement with the management on where this team is at. They thought they would be pushing for the playoffs this year, and while I thought there was a decent chance they might sneak in... In no way is this a season where you have players play through these kinds of injuries.

But maybe I am wrong. Maybe we are close to contention.

This is the most confident he has sounded since coming here.

I’m starting to feel like “common sense” isn’t so “common” for this management team?

How could you have an owner that interferes, a POHO, GM, 4/5 Assistant GM’s and a whole medical staff be this terrible?

Are they doing it so the league feels sorry for them and allows them to draft the hometown kid Bedard? Is this their thought process, it’s getting embarrassing.

Just an outlier for consideration.

Bally Sports is on the cusp of going bankrupt and this could extend a flat cap for another couple of years.

Montreal Gazzette;

Bally Sports, which is part of the Sinclair Broadcasting Group, provides regional TV coverage for 12 NHL teams and a larger number of NBA and MLB teams. It owes teams billions of dollars in rights fees. There’s no breakdown of how much money is owed to the NHL teams, but if the cash isn’t forthcoming, it will have a negative effect on hockey-related revenues and that means the salary cap might go down rather than up and the players could be looking at continued escrow payments.

Now there is no doubt that the NHL has told the teams about this but it is new information.

Some teams like the Canucks that signed Miller's contract early with the idea of counting on the cap going up may well regret signing that contract that early.

This could also affect Horvat and any other player with an expiring contract.

It could affect the TDL.

The news is new so maybe not well thought out or talked about yet.

But there are mainstream media carrying the story.

Just FYI

Too many streaming providers and the newer generation of fans have intricate methods of getting these streams without resorting to purchasing each individual sports packages.

I think we will see a gradual consolidation of providers which may eat away at the NHLs leveraging ability.

Where did they get their core players?

I'm guessing through the draft.
Considering the NHL has a draft system, it’s impossible for teams to not have core that are drafted.

The issue is that you guys somehow think if you don’t have depth, you need to tank tank tank to get depth.

Hell even if you look at all the depth Tampa has in their cup years, a lot of the key players were acquired in trades and FA. McDonagh, Coleman, goodrow, verhaeghe and etc.

And even a lot of the homegrown guys, the depth were acquired because they were tanking. It was just drafting well over a course of like 10 years. They didn’t get Point, Kucherov because they were tanking. They got them because they draft well or got lucky depending on how you want to look at it.

Hell look at Dallas, they didn’t tank and one draft basically changed the trajectory of their franchise and now they are a contender.

you guys are seriously broken by Benning.

How did Tampa acquire those players? You’re almost there!!!!

Those players being the ones they traded for?

They used their stockpile of assets. And since their system is deep they can continue to slot in depth from within.

The Canucks don’t have Tampa’s high end players or their middle end players and the system is barren.
